Breaking: Lieberman wins, Senate drops Medicare buy-in
Hot Air ^ | Dec.14, 2009 | Allahpundit

Major Garrett’s in the hall outside the Democratic caucus room and tweeting the word from Tom Harkin. Can’t really call this good news, as it makes passage much more likely, so let’s call it slightly-better-than-worst-case-scenario news. No more public option:

Asked by a reporter if the Medicare buy-in will be pulled out, Harkin said “looks that way,” before praising a Democratic health care bill without the two public option compromises.

“There’s enough good in this bill that even without those two, we gotta move,” he said. “All the insurance reforms, all the stuff we wrote so hard for prevention and wellness in there, the workforce development issues that we have in there, the reimbursement based on quality not on quantity — there’s good stuff in this bill. It’s a giant step forward, changing the paradigm of health care in America.”

Lieberman said he can (read: will) vote for the bill without the public plan provisions. Reaction, straight off the top of my head: (1) Kind of surprising that neither Snowe nor Collins defected to bail Reid out, eh? Now that he’s back to 60-ish, I wonder if they or Nelson, Bayh, Lincoln, etc. will suddenly ramp up their own demands. (2) The Democrats are so frantic to pass something at this point — e.g., there was a rumor floated earlier today that Emanuel was pressuring Reid to use reconciliation — that Pelosi will almost certainly want to ping-pong the Senate bill. Will the absence of a public option convince Blue Dogs who voted no on the House bill to vote yes this time or will the gruesome polling scare them away?

We’d be *far* better off if they’d all just sit around playing Solitaire on their laptops.

So this means that Congress will actually improve health care for all, and lower costs?

First up they will tackle junk lawsuits?

Indeed; and a great 'win' - whatever - but the problem of the Bill and yes, the man behind the curtain is still out there, threatening America's future.

Hope Lieberman feels the same way about the 'rest of the story'.

Does anyone know what happens when it comes out of conference committee (which will surely put the public option back in)? Will the floor vote be subject to filibuster, or do they just need a simple majority?

You have to have opposing leadership in the GOP to do it. We don't, we have McCain and Graham.

If any of this can be trusted then the bill will probably pass (unless the libs or the House balks), but Lieberman and Nelson got as much out as they could. They did very well, and should be congratulated. Now just watch the libs and the people on MSNBC bay at the moon about this.

Nobody wins until this disaster is killed and these scumbags are voted out of office.

MengeleCare is the RAT’s final solution for the USA and the American people. No doubts whatsoever!

As I've said many times; Socialized Medicine is a done deal.

It may be a watered-down INITIALLY plan, but it will grow and grow until it is SINGLE-PAYER, NO PRIVATE INSURERS will survive, and this first passage is the beginning of the government complete takeover of the Healthcare Industry, just as they have taken over banking, autos, etc.

This will pass before year-end, and I expect the State-Run-Media to step up its propoganda praising the "compromise" solution to the PROBLEM that doesn't exist.

Another power grab is almost complete.

Probably will pass before Christmas. The Senate will add the abortion restriction, and the House will pass it.

The Rats cannot afford to wait until January when the public is not distracted by the upcoming Christmas holiday to pass the government takeover of health care.

A lot of these Rats like Reid won’t be around after the elections, so they need to grab all the government control over the people that they can, now.

all the stuff we wrote so hard for prevention and wellness in there, the workforce development issues that we have in there

Two issues which, no doubt, the Democrats in the US Senate are EXPERTS, SO expert, in fact, that they can take over from mere doctors and nurses.

Here is one good reason to get Scott Brown elected. It would be an unexpected upset... but the people, even here in GomorroahChusetts, are angry about this enough to tip the balance, especially in what will be light turnout - bringing in those most angry to vote.
