So, we are supposed to stay out of organizations that the left-wing media maligns? Wouldn’t this make all non-left wing groups off limits?

Association with the John Birch Society won't help conservative candidates because of its reputation for some its extreme positions.
I have serious misgivings about its participation at CPAC and think that several candidates and office holders will shy away from speaking at CPAC. Nobody will want to be tagged "a Bircher."
