I read somewhere recently, (Todd Compton’s book, maybe?) that smith tried to institute ius primae noctis (Prima Nocte) in Nauvoo. That, being prophet (priest and king) he would have first right to other men’s plural wives the first night of the marriage.
Interesting to note, that although there is very little evidence (outside of anecdotal) for Medieval ius primae noctis, it was a popular myth in 19th century America and Europe.
I can see the hidden plural marriages (which they were for the most part at the time) being used as blackmail material.
