Let the military do what we train them to do and you will not have a long protracted war; let the congress critters run things and you get a lot of American soldiers killed for no reason. It is not a real tough issue to comprehend, when you send our troops into harms way you must let them defend themselves without restraint.
The military is doing exactly what they are trained to do, following orders. The problem isn’t that easily resolved. The use of force has to be adequate but not over reaching.
You can’t raze a village to kill one bad guy, all that does is turn the population against the whole effort.
I am all for killing as many Taliban and al-Qaeda terrorists as we can but we can’t lose sight of the mission which is to eventually leave this godforsaken country with the hope of it not turning back into a terrorist base and making sure it doesnt become a launching pad to overthrow Pakistan, which has nuke missiles.
No one is arguing self defense, that is internationally recognized under the rules of war, the question is what constitutes reasonable and effective ROE.
I respectfully disagree, it is a tough issue and not easily resolved.
