New York is least happiest state in America

Do you live in the happiest state in America? Well if you live in New York, you're in the least happy state according to the Huffington Post article. The top thing on the list that made the Empire State the least happy was the government. One resident described the government as “…corrupt, self-dealing and too quick to increase taxes.”

It is no secret that New York has had a troubled government for sometime now. Constantly cutting well needed programs for children and the elderly. Not being able to pass a budget in a timely fashion or one that works for that matter. The lack of governmental leadership that this state has is causing a lot of issues that runs right down to the county level.

Just recently it was announced that an area nursing home, Waterfront Health Care Center might be closing mainly due to the Medicaid cut backs that have happened year after year. This might be the fate of other local nursing home whose population is largely Medicaid. Where are these people supposed to go? If you keep closing these nursing homes it is just going to over crowd other ones which will put a strain on the staff that can cause other serious concerns. Not to mentions people who will be out of a job.

As someone who works in a nursing home setting, it is extremely sad to know that those who can not take care and speak for themselves are being forgotten.

I'm not surprised. Liberals are miserable people, who want everyone to be as miserable as they are.

It probably isn’t. But you would be surprised at what passes for acceptable grammar on college campuses. Only the better—read “private” schools reject writers like these. And not all private schools reject them, either.

Before you condemn the entire state of NY for being liberal you might want to check out where your state ranks in donations to FR.

https://secure.freerepublic.com/donate/scoreboard

Yes, we do complain about our state government and yes there are many liberals here (mostly in NYC). It’s the “New York Way” to be complaining about something and can be quite comical most of the time. Upstate NY’s problems originate from the vast amounts of liberals in the big shitty.

We have contemplated moving out but when we look at our taxes (school and property combined <$1000 @ year) we rethink. This discussion usually happens every winter when the temperature is 4 degrees or during a blizzard. We own (outright) 7 acres of land covered with Sugar Maples, a year round creek with waterfalls, a house as well as a cabin 3 other outbuildings surrounded by 1700 acres of timbered forest. I can shoot turkeys from my bedroom window and we have a hard time keeping the deer out of our gardens. Wildlife is abundant and the hunting and trapping is great here but the fishing sucks (by my standards). The people are friendly and always willing to help their neighbors when in need. We might have three cars go by our house today.

What I am trying to say is that we ‘upstaters’ are not really that unhappy. Our county is flat out broke. We fix our own potholes and trim trees without waiting for the county or town to do it. If we see a street sign leaning, we straighten it up. If a neighbors cows are loose, we stop and help without being prompted to do so. During blizzards, we plow our own roads when the town crew is running behind. If or when the SHTF, I can think of no better place to be than right here. Our county has one of the highest populations of CCW permit holders. Everyone I know has a closet full of weapons and knows how to use them.

The county board wanted to cut the funding back for the Sheriff’s office and a public meeting was called. 500 people stood in the cold to get into the meeting to voice their opinions. The result.....we won, no cutbacks.

I guess what I am trying to say is that you should not paint the state with such a broad brush. Don’t worry about the liberals moving out of here and into your neighborhood. They like it here because of the many social programs that have broken this beautiful state. It would most likely be a strong Conservative that would be relocating to your area and they should be welcomed with open arms.

I must admit that our preconceived notion about NYS was much the same as yours before we actually came here 20 years ago. We thought that the state would be overpopulated with roving gangs of carjackers and murderers, muggers, home invaders and the like. Not so.

Also, please note that this survey was conducted by the CDC. The same agency that declared H1N1 a worldwide pandemic and predicted that half the world will die from the flu this year.

Hopefully you will have a chance to meet a NY’er someday soon. Take some time and talk to them and you will most likely find that they believe in the same values as you....and they’re probably packing heat.

Welcome to Free Republic.

Our criticism of New Yorkers is when they move to the South and they continue to vote Democratic. Republicans are always welcome but that isn’t what we usually get. They have turned too many of these traditionally conservative states in to toss up states or worse.

Our goal as Conservative NY State voters is to dump all the liberals we can into your state. Get ‘em the hell out of here so we can live here as we wish. Then they would be your problem and up to you to....”Fix it”.

I understand your concerns about libs moving into your area and gaining a majority of votes. We have the same problem here with the NY City people moving up and telling us what to do. They bring their ways with them and expect us to live by city standards. Believe me, they are quickly shut down and frozen out.

What state do you live in that does not have graft & corruption in the government? If your state did not score as high as NY did on the donation chart wouldn’t that make NY more conservative than yours. Just asking.

I’m watched the national election results for the various states since I was a little kid. Are you really trying to make the case that NY is more conservative than than ANY other state in the country because of the conservative donations you see to FR? I wish you were right but that is beyond belief.

Let me guess. Your state must have scored way down on the list, right?

“...I know enough about NY, ...”

You don’t know crap.

You said:

“At least some NJ counties have sane counties. NY, none!”

You can’t back that up. There are many counties in NY where a lib doesn’t stand a chance. In my one little old county alone there are virtually No democrats elected to anything.

In many towns in my county the Democrats don’t even run any candidates for offices because they are so outnumbered they gave up. That’s right- there are places in NY where the Democrats don’t even try to run because they CAN NOT win.

You claim there are no “sane counties” in NY. You don’t seem to grasp the fact that New York is NOT New York City. As I said, look at a map.

“...more than I ever wanted to know.””

At least you admit that you prefer ignorance.

YOU have MY sympathies not for where you live but because you choose to remain ignorant.

No actually it is in the top third, as are most of the largest liberal states so I fail to see any correlation.
