Howie Carr Christmas/New Year's Thread
howiecarr.com ^ | 12/19/09 | raccoonradio

Posted on 12/19/2009 9:23:05 AM PST by raccoonradio

This is the Howie Carr Show thread for the Christmas/New Year's holiday period, Dec 19 until Jan 3 or so. Howie will probably be off a week or so (I think his last show before he goes to Fla. is Wed 12/23)

As you may have heard yesterday, Howie is making more use of the facebook account for the Howie Carr show. Soon you may have a very easy way, an easy to remember domain name that will bring you there. See below. Any Howie columns will be posted here, and of course we can discuss the show and stuff. And happy hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhholidays!

Oh, and Biff Buffington says get out there to the stores, the latest storm of the century is about to hit....

First, here is the URL for the Howie Carr Show facebook fan page. If you’re on Facebook, become a Fan. It’s being used on the show, etc.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Howie-Carr-Show/117272378049?ref=search&sid=1438590683.179764518..1

Pretty long, eh? Well get ready for this. I just registered the following domain name (may not work for awhile but stay tuned...)

http://www.howiecarr.info

And I paid a lot for it. I paid...

89 cents.

That’s right, and with tax I wound up paying GoDaddy
a mighty $1.07 to get this domain name for a year.

Boy am I generous! $1.25 will get you a 20 ounce Pepsi
from a vending machine, but I got a domain name for
one year for less...

Anyway if you get an error message, be patient. It takes awhile to work (and if I can’t get it to forward directly I’ll send it to a page with an easy to use link for
Howie’s facebook page)

Tell me that they’ve arranged Avi to sit in throughout Carr’s absence. COL DH and/or Katz generally see me switching to wtkk or wbz...

I know some don’t like him but I like Avi too; my guess, and it’s only a guess, is that Avi does Christmas Eve and New Yrs Eve shows and there would be best ofs on Christmas Day and New Yrs Day, and the Col. would probably do some shows. We’ll see. I’d hope it could be Avi all the time...

Sun Herald column ping (12/20)

Grass is greener for Mayor Menino as the Hall goes to pot
By Howie Carr | Sunday, December 20, 2009 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists

Welcome to your fifth term as mayor, Mumbles.

The snow’s swirling around outside his little starter home on Chesterfield Road this morning and Mumbles is laid up, old and fat, barely able to wedge his bum leg into a car. The guys he came up with are dying off, and now this - an OxyContin/marijuana rap for his top coatholder in East Boston, one John Forbes. The 31-year-old payroll patriot won’t be making the scene at Ecco for the Bills game today, not unless someone smuggled a saw into his Cocoa Puffs down in Plymouth.

Forbes is locked up for the weekend, awaiting his court appearance tomorrow, at which time we may find out more about both him and the other guy, Joe D’Amelio, a 38-year-old MIT cop who does not appear to be a stand-up guy.

In Maverick Square, it’s not looking like a very Merry Christmas.

In happier times, as they say, D’Amelio would probably be represented by one of the many pols he duked money to. Most likely Sal DiMasi, the former House speaker, whose esteemed client list has included Mob thug Vinny the Animal. Sal himself is staring at 185 years, and he’s represented by a felon who did a prison bit while working for the Animal’s Mafia boss in the North End. What goes around comes around.

In Eastie, a lot of kids admire pols, just the way others looked up to gangsters, and for the same reason. Like mobsters, hacks have a lot of money - and they don’t work.

To get started in either racket, you need a sponsor. You join a gang, er, organization. In Eastie politics, chances are the boss was named Junior or Tony. From his list of contributions, D’Amelio looks to come out of the old Tony Cannata crew. Tony was a Democrat, from the “highest-bidder” wing of the party, which meant he backed a lot of Republicans, at least if they were incumbents. You wanted signs outside the tunnels, you went to Tony. He could put a hundred or more guys on the street at rush hour, and every one of them was wearing a pinky ring.

Now I see D’Amelio gave money not only to Democrats Mumbles, DiMasi, Sen. Tony Petrucelli and Trav, but to Republicans Romney, Muffy Healey and Dan Grabauskas. Forbes, though, comes up only for Mumbles. But he was just starting out - in politics if not the drug business. He was in the “Office of Neighborhood Services.” In addition to holding signs, his duties included arranging basic city services. In Mumbles’ Ward 1, you had to call a pothead about a pothole.

Yeah, I know, Forbes was an “altar boy,” a “good kid.” They always say that, right before they say they’re “praying” for Forbes, who is charged with preying on his neighborhood. How about the mention in the first story that insiders said Forbes was being groomed for the State House or City Council. Why the past tense? How does peddling Oxy disqualify a hack in East Boston?

Hey, he was a good earner. Perhaps they would have run him for Rep. Carlo Basile’s seat. Carlo’s another one of those Eastie Republican-Democrats, used to work for Grabauskas at the RMV, maxed out to Muffy Healey, in addition of course to heavily duking cash to DiMasi and Sen. Petrucelli.

If Charlie Baker wins the governorship next year, Carlo Basile gets a big job in the new GOP administration. That opens up his seat, although one of Mumbles’ minions, Jeff Drago, might take another shot at it. Drago just passed the bar, a good thing, considering the opportunities for retainers that DiMasi’s indictment has produced.

Meanwhile, the guy on whose watch this latest cluster-bleep developed, ol’ Mumbles, is lying on a ratty couch in Readville with his leg propped up, lip-reading the funny papers. Maybe now he begins to realize he lingered too long at the all-you-can-eat buffet. This is how the world ends, Mumbles - not with a bang, but with a not-guilty plea.

I always wonder what the corruption enablers over at the Globe think when they read (and they do) Howie’s columns?

Given what Howie thinks of his his on-line listeners, you are really propping up the show

That’s OK, I do it for fun and because it’s needed but hey
who knows-—maybe a free copy of his second book (he’s hinted at) when it’s published? :)

Howie is at least promoting the facebook they’ve got now

btw what’s this on the Mass. board about Scott Brown calling up Ingraham (or her fill in) and defending Romneycare? Missed it. All I know is had Scott Brown been in there now would
last night’s vote have been 60-40 or 59-41? I’d hope that he would at least help us out on most votes.

But no, we’ll just stay home and allow Coakley in. She’s a really nice woman, you know. Very smart. (/ sarcasm) Brought to you by Conservatives For Coakley, who want you to stay home and allow The Kennedy Tradition to continue.

I think he must be looking for Mitt’s support

Today’s show will be more of the same.

I live in a state to the south, with strangely enough a group of Canadian doctors in my direct neighborhood, that smelled a rat when Mitt was hulking that mess.

My old Canadian doctor neighbor would just state, please just tell me where it has worked before we try it here.

Good luck to us all

Love the Kowloon! Great food! Pain in the butt to get out of the parking lot, but a fun restaurant to eat at.

The Hill Top still lives but the Ship has Sunk to a No Ties required, under new ownership. I had a friend who waited their in the 60’s and 70’s and used to pull two grand a week in undeclared tips out of the place.
