BREAKING: Nelson To Vote For Healthcare In Exchange For Medicaid Payments To Nebraska
newsbusters ^ | December 19, 2009 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 12/19/2009 2:09:47 PM PST by opentalk

Not that this will come as any great shock, but Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), the lone Democrat holdout against the current iteration of healthcare reform, announced Saturday he will vote for the bill.

Also unsurprising: much like Mary "Louisiana Purchase" Landrieu (D-La.) before him, Nelson sold his vote and his very soul for some financial benefits to his state.

As Politico reported moments ago:

Sen. Mary Landrieu got the "Louisiana Purchase." Sen. Ben Nelson got the federal government to pick up most his state's future Medicaid tab -- forever.

As part of the deal to win Nelson's support, the federal government will fund Nebraska's new Medicaid recipients. It's a provision worth about $45 million over the first decade. [...]

Medicaid is usually paid for with a mix of federal and state funding, but Nelson's carve out means that any Medicaid beneficiaries who join the program after the bill passes will be funded by the federal government.

It's a sweet deal considering that many governors are worried that the Medicaid expansion will further strain already stressed state budgets.

Great. So states with fiscal problems of their own get their budgets squeezed as a result of this bill, but the man that history will show cast the deciding vote gets his state off the hook!

Amazing!

Beyond this, tax dollars went to bribe two key Democrats so that a bill will be passed that will raise our taxes further!

Absolutely amazing!

Is this what Hope and Change meant?

Exit question: If we now disaffectionately refer to Louisiana's Democrat Senator as Mary "Louisiana Purchase" Landrieu, what should we call Nelson for his historic sellout?

I've already heard Ben "Cornhusker Kickback" Nelson, but think that lacks punch.

Any other suggestions?

“I am going to write Midget Mikulski and ask her why I have to pay and Nebraskans dont.”

All those who are subjects to democrat senaturds (we’re no longer constituents, but subjects) should contact those senaturds and demand to know why their states didn’t get special treatment, too. At least since this battle is lost, we can add some heat from that angle.

I would now be pissed if we didn't’t get the same deal.

Exactly!

Your point is very real and will prove to be the unraveling of this catastrophe. If it’s free for one it should be free for all. This special accommodation is unconstitutional as a matter of equal protection. The abortion “states choice” disaster is dead for the same reason. Either this never makes it past the Supreme Court, or our constitution is truly dead and gone.

"I tried emailing him last night....but got response that his mailbox was full...."

I'll bet it was. That should tell him somthing. My guess is he won't learn from the message. Once a whore always a whore.

Nebraskans will not be bought with his tainted money. We are even planning a little get together with other states to deal with these whore-like antics of our senator and all senators. cca1789.com

This bribe is worth less than $3 per Cornhusker per year ($4.5 million per annum/1.78 million Nebraskans).

Meanwhile, each Nebraskan will have his premium go up by thousands.

Nebraskans ought to mail in three $1 bills to Nelson, to let him know Cornhuskers aren't to be bought for a phony $3. If Nelson ever shows his face again in Nebraska, he should be showered by each person with three $1 bills. If he goes to a Town Hall, a garbage bag is loaded with $1 bills from the crowd, and that bag is dumped in front of his lectern. Every time he proffers his hand to shake, three $1 bills are offered in return. He won't be able to go anywhere in Nebraska without $1 bills being waved at him. Like Midas, everything he touches turns to $1 bills. He'll be driven out of the State by it.

This would make for some great visuals, and a compelling news story.

I think it is a great idea to call your local Senator and demand to know why you didn’t get the same deal for your state.

I remember seeing on some news channel that approval polls for health-care bill in Nebraska were only a little over 30% .
Even lower than the national polls.

What I would like to say has to do with things like justice, rope, death for treason, and other things that are only seen in the most fearful of nightmares, but I can’t say these things for legal reasons.

So, I will sit here quietly and shake my head and wonder what the next step will be and by whom will it be taken.

It's a provision worth about $45 million over the first decade.

So, we know that his "moral" stance against killing unborn children is worth less to him than $4.5 million per year.
