Fear of violence grows in mountaintop mining fight (enviro-goons vs. coal miners)
AP via Yahoo! ^ | December 19, 2009 | VICKI SMITH

It was the slap heard 'round the coalfields: Cordelia Ruth Tucker, wearing the fluorescent-striped shirt of a miner, strode past West Virginia state troopers and into a stream of marchers protesting mountaintop removal mining to deliver an audible smack.

(snip)

There have been nearly 100 arrests in 20 protests, most involving trespassing. Led by a new group called Climate Ground Zero, the activists have chained themselves to giant dump trucks, scaled 80-foot trees to stop blasting and paddled into a 9 million-gallon sludge pond. They've blocked roads, hung banners and staged sit-ins.

Virginia-based Massey Energy claims a single 3 1/2-hour occupation at Progress Coal Co. in Twilight cost the company $300,000.

(snip)

Massey equates anti-coal with anti-American. Pittsburgh-based Consol Energy blames the planned layoffs of 482 miners on a lawsuit by the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition.

Activist Chuck Nelson, a former underground miner from Glen Daniel, said the longer surface miners face uncertainty, the more the danger grows: The federal government must act soon, one way or the other.

And if the EPA comes down on the environmentalists' side?

"Well," Nelson said, "there's a possibility it might not be safe to live in the Coal River Valley."

“Coal mining is no way to live”

Sez who?

All who support reduction of coal mining should be condemned to having all their coal generated power uses made illegal.

No electricity for heating should cure the problem this weekend.

;-)

Yes, I AM advocating letting the GangGreen commies freeze to death in the dark.

I bet you a few of them were some of those at the 9/12 march on DC.

It looks like this will be in everyone’s future.

One day Americans will get it—the left is out to destroy you.

They want you poor, miserable and dependent. It’s just that simple.

One day you will realize this and begin to fight back.

But not until many, many of you suffer a good long while, it would seem.

I had relatives in the West Virginia mountains who were coalminers back in the day when they really had nothing, Hard workers that would give you their last piece of bread. I would love for these enviro wackos to get a taste of mountain justice. Depriving these hard working, decent people their livelihood is inhumane, and depriving Americans of energy is despicable.

I hope they tar and feather them and take them out on rails, Ah-h-h .... the good ol' days.

Here’s the slap:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dP27PKnCG0

Listen to the pinkos applaud when Massey is handcuffed. “Yea! An unemployed working woman is going to jail! Hoorah!” PUKE!

BTW, used to be I would hasten to add that I don’t endorse behavior like that of Massey. I no longer hasten. I no longer even add.

Those that would find allies in the legal system to oppress you, rob you of your wealth, your freedom to contract and associate and of your means to sustain yourself and live in your community-—? Well, many things are evil. Some less so than others.

“...for what they’re doing to these miners.”

If you are reading this, you are on their list. This type of thing is certainly not reserved for miners alone.

Every American will have his/her turn with the left.

They’re just getting started.

I hope Americans wake up before it’s too late to keep them at bay, to save our freedom.

Ditto. The Bible once said if you take a way a man’s ability to earn a living, it is no different from murdering him. Since ancient time, history has recorded that humans will react violently if you plan to take away their means to earn a living.
Miners for most part come from the tradition of the Appalachian Mountain Men. They know thievery or injustice when it is done to them, and they will take the law into their own hands.
Finally the environmentalists claim that their movement is from within West Virginia made up of people from the towns of WV. Well if they are, they should be aware of the miners’ culture and history, and what will happen. Most West Virginians I know do not believe in screwing with the miners nor farmers, because they are trying to make a living. Many are only two generations separated from miner and farmer generation within their own families.

I live in the Ohio Valley and would concur with what the man said that it won’t be safe to be there soon. The greens should be very afraid for their safety because if they suceed and things are shut down few will survive to make it home. People in these parts do not take kindly to being told what to do and even less kindly to facing their family starving!

Nah, the miners are good Democrats first, and freedom lovers second. I’ll put $20 on the followers of Gore!

coal mining is a GREAT way to live. I love it,as many do. We help keep this country great, but of course everyone doesn’t like so-called dirty jobs, mining, milling, timber cutting, oil drilling, but this is actually all real life consists of,everything else depends on these things

Everyone knows about the Hatfield - Mccoy fued. That was in West Virginia. Imagine that kind of dedication focused on outsiders and it becomes quite a wonder that nothing has happened yet.

Coal mining is no way to live but whats the alternative for these people?

According to the West Virginia Coal Association:

"The average annual wage of a coal miner exceeds $60,000, far higher than the national median household income of $36,622, as reported in the Hendryx-Ahern report."

I'd say not a bad way to live!
