Democrats’ Health Bill Passes Key Senate Vote Republicans pledge to fight on despite losing early Monday

WASHINGTON - Senate Democrats’ health care overhaul passed a key test in a party-line vote early Monday, in a dramatic defeat for Republicans that put the legislation on track for Christmas-week passage.

In the run-up to the vote, the escalation in rhetoric was remarkable on both sides of an issue that has divided the two political parties for months.

"This process is not legislation. This process is corruption," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., referring to the last-minute flurry of dealmaking that enabled Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and the White House to lock in the 60 votes needed to approve the legislation.

Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island responded in near-Biblical terms. In a speech on the Senate floor, he said Republicans are embarked on a "no-holds barred mission of propaganda, obstruction and fear. ... There will be a reckoning. There will come a day of judgment about who was telling the truth."

First 60-vote test coming up Whatever else it was, the legislation represented the culmination of a year's work for Democrats, pressed by President Barack Obama to remake the nation's health care system.

I always find it ironic when the rats pretend to be Christians. They hate Christians almost as much as they hate Israel.

Freedom... R.I.P.

Yep. My prediction: there will be no free/fair elections in 2010, or ever again until Civil War II is over. The Dems have shown they have the power to do anything they want. They can put anything they want in this bill in conference, and nobody, but nobody can stop them short of bodily harm, which nobody is willing to try because of fear of the consequences.

Beans, bullets, and band-aids. Stock up. You will need them all soon.

If the GOP believed that the Rats are corrupt then they should cut off any of those good olde boy meetings and back slapping. Refuse to associate with the Rats..no more big Senate Social Club. Somehow, I think most of the GOP will be back to business as usual. All trying to be in the picture when Zero signs the bill.

Republicans THINK people are SMART, but Democrats KNOW people are STUPID. That explains what happened today.

The Democrats have no fear. The Sheeple will be there when they need them in November 2010. You can count on it.

Disgraceful.

Can’t a Senator put a “hold” on certain legislation, or is that for federal court nominations only????

Of course the Democrats are smart, they know once this is signed, its done, and no one can do a damn thing to stop it. They don’t care about their jobs, big deal, so they lose their jobs. They have enough money, they have nothing to worry about. This is what they have always wanted, socialized medicine and now they have it

If you have not yet prepared yourself with:

a weapon;

ammunition;

food;

water;

hard currency;

something to carry these in;

outdoor clothes and boots/shoes . . .

then you are a complacent FOOL.

Civil strife is coming; probably civil war.

If you live in a city, it is coming there first.

If you are a member of the military or police, remember your oaths, and gaze upon the rape of our Constitution and our freedoms. You will soon be forced to decide if your oath reflects who and what you are - or was just noise.

Truly a historic vote: it’s not often you watch the politicians of a nation willingly throw said nation’s prosperity down the toilet.

Americans wanted “change” and they’re going to get it. :D:D:D:D:D

You're correct.

The GOP leadership drinks from the same cup of their liberal buddies.

We just saw a dramatic play being performed by some of the best actors.

John acting like he wants to fight for the American People. BS. He's wanting to perform well in front of the camera so he will get reelected and go back to the same POS he was prior to tonight.

Bob Dole at least put up a fight against Clinton where as John just rolled over to 0.

Just heart breaking to see our great Nation fall.

It's best that a majority of our WWII Vets are not around to see this.

If that is the case, all we have to do is win a majority in the House in 2010 and then not fund this stupid thing.

Yes.

It will be a dicey task for a hopefully conservative 2010 House leadership. But the bigger the margin of victory, the easier it will be to hog-tie The One until 2013.

Zero can veto, but he can't appropriate.

Don't tell him that. If Congress doesn't do it, he will get it done via Executive Order or by the FDA or the appropriate federal Agency. He will find a way!

The difference between love and rape is free will vs force...

This is force

Democrats use force and call an act of rape an act of "love"...

They are scum

as a Canadian frequenting these boards, and reading the great posts and comments, I’ve noticed a lot of folks saying we’ll vote them out in 2010, and again in 2012.

Take it from a freedom lover stuck in a socialist country. It won’t matter who you vote for, it’ll be more of the same. I think folks are in denial if they think anything except a full out uprising will stop them.

Again as a Canadian, I do hope the last free country on earth doesn’t fold, I’ll have nowhere to dig my tunnels in a bid to escape to freedom.

This is my email to Mary Landrieu the soon outgoing senator from Louisiana: I can’t believe you sold your vote on health care. You obviously think we are totally stupid and can’t make a decision without your help. Because of this you and the whole of congress are delusional. You had better hurry up and pass a health care bill that you and your family won’t have to live under in order than you can then pass an amnesty bill. This is the deal...pass health care before including the cost of the amnesty people. Obviously you will need these people to try and I mean try to get re-elected. You and your family have lived off my dollar long enough.

Actually, the majority of the population is simply stupid and cannot see the obvious.

At least we were unanimous, and on the right side.

Can you think of a more perfect time than this night/morning for Michael Steele to introduce 60 2010 CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN SENATE CANDIDATES???

What?....he's SLEEPING!?!?

Someone get Steele an overpass to sleep under, and START ANNOUNCING 2010 CANDIDATES!!!!!
