Texas Tea Party groups rally on Hutchison's health care filibuster vote

Tea Party groups in Dallas, Austin and Houston are rallying today at the offices of Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison to protest her breaking ranks with a GOP filibuster aimed at stalling the Democrats’ health care bill.

"We want to let her know that we are not happy," said Dallas Tea Party leader Phillip Dennis. "If we can’t trust her to fulfill her promises as a senator, how can we trust her as governor?"

Last week, Republican Senate leaders organized a filibuster of a defense spending bill, though that was not the real target. Hutchison said she supported the tactic, but once Democrats gathered the 60 votes needed, she joined Democrats – and two other Republicans – to force a vote on the defense bill. This move cleared the way for work to resume on health care.

A Hutchison aide said she voted as she did to show support for the troops and noted that the filibuster would have been broken with or without her vote.

"If we can’t trust her to fulfill her promises as a senator, how can we trust her as governor?"

Given the obvious answer perhaps this is just a rhetorical question, but the simple answer is, you can't.

Will she resign from the Senate to run for Governor? If not the Tea Party should demand it.

I just came from the tea-party rally that was announced at the last minute. The small number (50-100) of protesters was disappointing, but it was a pleasure to talk with some like-minded people who feel that Kay Baily Hutchinson and the rest of congress should pack their bags. KBH is still running a ridiculous radio ad saying she was going to do everything possible to stop the government take over of health care. Her vote Friday tells a different story and people are livid. We lined the street in front of the office tower containing KBH’s office. Numerous motorists sounded their horns in support. There were some big government sympathizers, on the other hand, who shouted obscenities and gave us the one finger salute.

This video supports my cop buddy’s belief that she is a trojan horse obama is trying to use to subvert Texas as we are the most conservative state and hold significant sway in the hopes of stopping the marxists’ agenda from completely overrunning the country.
Why else would she run against a fellow sitting republican governor?
She does not even step down from her senate seat to do so.
This repulsive pos needs to face a conservative when she is up for reelection.

If the filibuster could have been broken without her vote she still could have stood on principle and supported her party by voting against it. Her explanation doesn’t wash.

As Tea Party goer, it seems that until something big comes up there may be a danger of too many calls for a protest. When Tea Parties go from enthused to “let's protest at the drop of a hat”, that will lose many people that would no more attend a “protest” that vote dem.

Regarding Kay Bailey's vote with the dems on the Defense Bill, even though she can rightously claim support for our Military, the bigger picture that even us dumb citizens recognized was the necessity to throw as many roadblocks in obamacare as possible, to which the Mil would likely agree.
This was not a good move by KBH, when she could hardly afford anymore “conservative” setbacks.

A Hutchison aide said she voted as she did to show support for the troops

So her 33 GOP colleagues who voted against cloture did not support the troops?

Good question as she orginally said she’d resign before year end but now says she’ll stay until the health care and cap/trade are finished. She doesn’t have to resign no more that McCain/Palin had to resign to run for the Presidency. We’ll see what she does as the primary is only 75 days out.

I’m not a huge Perry fan but Hutchinson’s run at this point is pointless.
