The images look like they were cut out and glued on, or perhaps done in Photoshop. Can you confirm that these are real photos of real ornaments actually on a tree in the White House? And is this tree a “community tree” of some sort, on which anyone can hang an ornament, or are all its ornaments affirmed by the White House?
They found images in old magazines, newspapers and etcetera, pasted them physically onto the surface of the ornament, layering them, and then more or less shellacked the whole thing.
The person behind this all has long been controversial, and deliberately pushed the bounds of what is acceptable, you know, the whole juvenile "shock your parents" phase, that they never seem to grow out of. If jaded New Yorkers had a problem with his work on window displays, though, you know it was completely beyond the pale for normal people.
So, of course the Obama White House was drawn to that like flies on ... well, fill in the blank. I noticed a sort of ecological theme with the very first photo of the White House tree, with several on the tree in the background, behind the First Couple with Oprah Winfrey, looking like the planet Earth. These are no doubt from the same tree. Who knows what's on the side facing away from the camera.
If one of a kind ornaments presented to the White House were used for this and defaced, there should be a huge outcry, just as there should be for tasteless and deliberately offensive political imagery within the defacing of them. It's worse than grafitti. It's like one of those dubbed over American westerns from the Soviet Union, that replaced original dialogue with Communist propaganda. Matter of fact, it's part and parcel of the same mindset.
