You're quite right, DieHard, older people find falls very scary, and with good reason. Mortality rates are disturbingly high for an elderly person in the year after a broken hip. This comes from a secondary series: broken hip --> impaired mobility --> compromised pulmonary activity --> pneumonia --> death. That's the most common event cascade.

On Google News I notice that most articles don't even mention Cardinal Roger Echeveria, 87, whose leg was broken. I will pray for Benedict, and for Roger, and for the female assailant who is evidentally mentally ill.

“everyone was filming this like they almost expected it to happen”
No, everyone was filming like the pope was walking past them.
I say bust her friggin head open whoever she is and whatever she represents.
I suggest His Holiness contact Sal and Nunzio from the local mob coffee shop and hire them to watch his back.Pay them well and he could walk in the worse neighborhood wearing gold and jewels and no one would say boo to him..

This incident demonstrates the wisdom of that rude caution that is sometimes issue to conspicuously pregnant ladies: If you don't watch out, you'll get knocked down, too.

>> I just got back from mindnite mass from the High Mass at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. They had a swat team in back of church. Daley does not kid around kid around.

Yeah, right. Just don’t YOU try packin’ your Roscoe to mass, fellow member of the unwashed masses.

Ouch! Poor old geezer! Guess the media is too busy covering other important stories: “Asses escape from live nativity scene in Colo.”.

Yeah, me too - that she comes to Jesus just as the noose is being tightened.

Oh, c’mon. She has a psychiatric history. I truly feel sorry for people who are mentally ill. It’s not a happy place to be. Hope she gets some help.
