Yup. Sky King was my favorite. And the ad: “Reach for Nabisco...”

I was a very lucky girl. My dad knew the owner of the RKO Palace in Rochester, NY. We always had free passes and dad was always willing to take me to the cartoons and some of the great movies of the day.

I met him once, when I was little, at a gun club.

When I was a kid, I saw him shooting trap at a gun club, but don't recall getting to meet him.

I did, however, get to meet "Hopalong Cassidy" as a young lad. He was great with the kids.

Don’t forget to subtract annual average inflation of maybe 3% over that time, so your real return is ~3.5%

"From out of the clear blue of the western sky comes Sky King"

Memory getting a bit rusty, RWA? Pretty close, though ;>)

If you want another childhood memory punctured and deflated, watch “Hollywoodland.” Good flick (and very intriguing mystery) about the tragic George Reeves and also a great story about redemption.

I got to know Roy Rogers at the Saturday morning matinees. In 1962, children of American servicemen and civilian personnel would troop into the movie theater at the Hindenburg Barracks in Bad Kreuznach, Germany each Saturday morning to watch a program which began with a serial such as “Panther Girl of the Kongo” or “Radar Men from the Moon,” to be followed by a feature film. Many of these films featured Roy Rogers and included “In Old Amarillo,” “Under California Stars,” and “Hands Across the Border.”

I was probably among the last American children to have experienced Saturday morning matinees.

Those were incredibly good shows that taught us a lot about life and living. It turns my stomach to see today's drek...

I think you’ll like it. I just watched it a couple weeks ago. Somewhat slow pacing, but that makes it pleasurable. And interesting movement through time.

I simply ran the numbers to get the calculated intereste rate, disregarding the impact of inflation on the end result.

Regardless, if you had $25K earning 6.56675% annual compounded interest rate, you would wind up with with $1M in 58 years.

It’s the CD working at 3% with an inflation rate of 3% that gets you nowhere.

Don’t forget those weekday after school half hour serials; Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid, Captian Corbett (little space ships with strings visible), Tarzan, then can’t forget Little Rascals. Wow, now you know how old I am - I’m old...

Don't remember Captain corbett but remember Andy's gang with jungle boy,Howdy doody,(princess summer fall winter spring) Old also but great memories.

I just rmemember those eyes.

C&W singer Clint Black has Roy Roger's eyes...could be RR's son.

I went to school with Clint's father who was voted "Most Handsome" and was much better looking than Clint.

Tony Romo also has RR eyes.
