Romulus, Mich. - A senior U.S. counterterror official says a passenger aboard a Delta Air Lines flight in Detroit was planning to blow up the plane but the explosive device failed.

The official said the passenger was being questioned Friday evening. It was not immediately clear why the passenger wanted to attack the flight that was arriving from Amsterdam

“One attempt failed, but are other attempts in the planning stage?”

We can be certain!

The Homeland Security Department said passengers may see additional screening measures on domestic and international flights because of the incident.

This is another freakin' outrage. WE have to endure additional hassle and inconvenience because THESE PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO KILL US. How about just saying they can't come here, they are not allowed on planes headed for our country, and if they are already here, they can't fly. Traveling to the United States is not a universal human right, it is a privilege we extend to people and, one which we can deny them, as well. Another story said this person was already on a no-fly list. So, how did he get on the plane? Did the airline conform with existing law and report the passenger manifest before the plane took off? If so, why was he allowed on the flight. If not, why not? How did he get through security with an explosive substance? So many questions. Muslims should not be allowed to fly.

I’m gonna guess that last one that went down in the Ocean with no real cause was a successful run of this..

Actually, they do. International flights are required to provide us with a passenger manifest before the flights take off for the US. Also, DHS maintains posts and personnel at major overseas airports, including Amsterdam.

Maybe he’s Somali.....

Remember, the Somali pirate of the Maersk Alabama was sent to Nigeria originally.

Besides, lots of Nigerian mulims involved in piracy now.

And is an AQ target:

Thanks God he didn’t try to do this in the bathroom...the passengers never would have know until it was too late. Scary how close he came to succeeding.

Ah, GOOD thinking, and this guy has claimed he’s al-Q.

FNC is now reporting that there wasn’t enough information on him for his name to be put on the “no fly” list.

(Let’s not ever err on the side of caution) /s

Might as well just dump the ‘1 Qt.’ baggies, as they will now be considered dangerous.

It will be interesting to see (if) the passengers’ interviews who witnessed the bomb attempt..

Found this:
A Michigan man who witnessed the attempted destruction of a Northwest Airlines flight to Metro Airport said he’s proud of how passengers reacted.

Syed Jafry of Holland, Mich., a U.S. citizen who had flown from the United Arab Emirates, said after emerging from the airport that people ran out of their seats to tackle the man.
Jafry was sitting in the 16th row — three rows behind the passenger — when he heard “a pop and saw some smoke and fire.” Then, he said, “a young man behind me jumped on him.”

Jafry said there was a little bit of commotion for about 10 to 15 minutes. The incident occurred during the plane’s descent, he said.

He said the way passengers responded made him proud to be an American.

But passenger Richard Griffith of Pontiac said he was unaware of the incident until departing the plane.

He said he was sitting in the back of the plane and did not “see or hear anything.”

His wife and daughter, who had been waiting for him at the airport since about 11:40 a.m., said they saw a person they believe to be the suspect being transported from the airport. Dawn Griffith said he was “young looking” and was handcuffed to a stretcher, with his hands bandaged.

J.P. Karas, 55, of Wyandotte, Mich., said he was driving down a road near the airport and saw a Delta jet at the end of the runway, surrounded by police cars, an ambulance, a bus and some TV trucks.

“I don’t ever recall seeing a plane on that runway ever before and I pass by there frequently,” he said.

Karas said it was difficult to tell what was going on, but it looked like the front wheel was off the runway.

Just heard on fox that someone grabbed the perpetrator by the neck. This could be a problem in terms of getting a conviction.

I’m listening to Mr. Jafrey on the FNC. Prob. a muzzie as well, but at least a good example of an articulate mussle who is proud to be an American and not afraid to speak out. Hope he’s safe.

His peers at his trial (since he is not dead...), should be his fellow passengers.
Have one-hour max to discuss the matter.
His lawyer has 5 minutes to talk, then is off to a pig BBQ.

A passenger, Sayed Jafry is being interviewed on FNC as I’m typing this. He’s decribing the screening process he went through in Amersterdam and what he witnessed on the plane. He has an Arab accent and he was thoroughly screened before boarding.

Passengers did tackle and subdue the suspect who ‘suffered’ third degree burns.

All passengers were questioned individually by FBI and I think he said, screened and searched again.

(I missed a little of the interview due the a phone call, which I cut short...lol).
