US Plane Suspect 'a London Student'
This is London ^ | Saturday, December 26, 2009

An al Qaida-linked suspect who allegedly tried to blow up a transatlantic plane is studying at a UK university, it has been reported.

The Nigerian is accused of trying to detonate a powdery substance on a plane from Amsterdam as it prepared to land at Detroit with 278 people on board.

US sources said he was subdued by passengers and has since claimed to have been acting for al Qaida.

He has been named by ABC News as Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, an engineering student at University College London, with the broadcaster citing US government documents.

The suspect, who has also been identified as Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab in other reports, is currently under guard at a Michigan hospital.

He was flying from Nigeria to the United States for a religious ceremony according to his entry visa, ABC News said, which was issued on June 16 last year and valid until June 12, 2010.

“Sigh, are we now going to be required to drop our pants before boarding a plane?”

We may not be able to wear them at all!

The rampant idiocy being exhibited by "US Officials" is unbelievable

Rather than some loose cannon going off half-cocked somewhere, I believe we should picture Obama's Muslim advisors generating lists of guidelines to be followed by all the rank-and-file TSA-types, negotiated so CAIR won't scream "profiling!". (Of course we all know they used to scream, "Bloody murder! (translated from "Alahu Akhbar!") before they had Soetero. (The tune is the same, the words are properly and politically correct.))

The Ft. Hood Major Nidal Hasan seems to have been one of those advisors. Like Hasan's colleagues, who with rare exception certainly don't qualify as idiots, the "U.S. Officials" of which you speak, under pain of losing their jobs in a deep recession, are kept from speaking out against their better judgment, as they like keeping food on their tables.

Isn't the corruption Barry has brought us wonderful!?

” he injected his groin with some chemical mixture,”

They usually put ball bearings in their bombs, not just balls!

He reportedly had this powder “strapped to his groin area”

Now that they've shown a willingness to violate whatever deference security might in the past have shown for passengers private parts, I believe we've "crossed the Rubicon".

We either have to have body cavity searches at every aviation portal, or we must determine to address this problem in a previously-less-desirable fashion, as in shipping all these Amish folk back to their native countries.

What, other than the unpleasant uprooting process and the out-of-state money paid to universities to keep the professors and their pensions flush (Hey, now there's an idea!), have we got to loose?

Well it looks as though terrorists have found a way to circumvent security, at least overseas. I wonder, could US security measures have found these items or would have been detected? I say no, but what do you think?

How long before the MSM releases a mug shot?

Ummm . . . they're referring to him now as "a Nigerian man." Two reasons not to include a pic.

Some DUmmies think he was celebrating Christmas by lighting firecrackers, like they do in Nigeria...

OK, we are getting the first (albeit blurry) pictures of the sonofabitch and the incident:

From UK Telegraph just now.

Air India 182 (blown up by sikh separatists, not muslims) had 80 children aboard.

Imagine being so evil you believe your political concerns justify killing 80 children?

Perhaps off topic but FOXNEWS is dismal at breaking news stories. I can’t stand the pompousness of CNN but when it comes to breaking stories in cable news ... they own it.

From what I think I heard on WJR this morning, the airport in Amsterdam, doesn’t limit liquids, also will not allow US Air Maritcals(sp?) on any flights.

From UK Telegraph

LOL! Thanks to a citizen photographer and a UK paper. I can see this will be another story for which I'll be having to look to the Telegraph and the Daily Mail for details.

His awareness of the fact that searches of “private areas” were subject to a few perfunctory pat-downs is why he would attempt using this hiding place.

So, yes, when you get groped and felt up at your next plane boarding, blame this guy.

I suppose it’s either relax and enjoy it, knowing it helps you stay safe, or protect the privacy of the Family Jewels, which may not get off the plane in one piece.

Us Air Marshalls?

A Marshall is a law-enforcement officer. “Martial” is an adjective which means warlike or military.

Please see post #175. Have to get close enough for spell check to work, which it seems I can’t.

Always thank the Dems in charge of the Detroit Public Schools.

What freaking religious ceremony???

"Religious ceremony" should have set off alarm bells to begin with. Don't the people who are supposed to protect the public understand that suicide bombing is considered a religious ceremony by Muslims?

He must not have had any ‘Don’t Tread on Me’, or ‘Tea Party’ bumper stickers on him, or DHS would have qualified him as a terror threat immediately.
