Sen. Chris Dodd (D) returned home to Connecticut this afternoon following a historic vote this morning in the Senate that will reform health care.
Dodd is facing a tough re-election bid and at least one man at Bradley International Airport let him know just how tough it will be.
"You're not gonna get re-elected," the man said.
"Nice. Merry Christmas," Dodd responded.
But is Dodd concerned that this vote will hurt his chances at winning in 2010?
"Oh, I don't know, I find it somewhat amusing that people, every move you make has some sort of political calculation," he said.
And he stands by his vote.
"It changes the direction, it eliminates, if nothing else, fear that a lot of people feel. We have 350,000 people in this state who are uninsured," Dodd said.
This win was clearly bittersweet.
"Look, I'm an accidental participant, had it not been for the illness and death of Senator Kennedy, I'd been a vote on the bill and a vote on the committee," he said.
In fact, immediately after the vote, Dodd went to Arlington National Cemetery to Kennedy's grave. He says he knows the Massachusetts Democrat would've wanted more, the Senate version does not include a public option, but because he was a great legislator, Kennedy would've appreciated pushing it through. A sentiment News Channel 8 found among the public.
"I think it's probably gonna be pretty good because there's a lot of Americans who are not covered by health insurance so hopefully, it'll be good," said Lloyd Walters of Waterbury.
The last time the Senate voted on Christmas Eve was over 100 years ago.
Harry Reid says "Public will greet health care bill with 'joy and happiness'"
Any constituents out to throw rotten eggs or bricks or any thing at him?

“It changes the direction, it eliminates, if nothing else, fear that a lot of people feel.”
Just another insane Senator. Put the entire fiscal health of our country in jeopardy so someone does not feel scared. Chris (I will NOT call you “Senator”), you should feel scared regarding the imminent loss of your Senate seat. Scared because you might actually have to get a real job. But then you could always live in your “cabin” over in Ireland, right? Even if you have to refi through CountryWide.
What a corrupt person you are.
“Yes, we’ll hear an earful,” Reid added, “but it will be an earful of wonderment and happiness.”
Definitely not living on our planet.
Be in D.C.!
“In fact, immediately after the vote, Dodd went to Arlington National Cemetery to Kennedy’s grave.”
Something I would do only if I needed to relieve myself...
If he’s not reelected, he’ll just have to make do with his very generous Senate retirement income................poor baby!
We need to march on DC. 10 Million people demanding this crap stops now.
Hey there Mr. Dodd....Merry _____ Christmas....
“Our motto for Tax Day Tea Party II is: Regroup. Rebuild. Reclaim. And we hope you will help us do exactly that.”
Will be there ... hope it will stay grass roots ... let’s make this one work from the ground up and get government off our backs.
I voted against Mo,as did all my family, but we still suffer the consequences along with every one else living in this great nation.
He will lose his bodyguards once he’s out of office.
If they’re so worried about the uninsured, why doesn’t this bill go into effect as soon as it’s signed? How many people must die in the mean time?
Maybe he should spend the holidays at his taxpayer subsidized cottage in Ireland. At least there he won’t have to pay any import duties on his 55gallon drums of Jamison.
Look, I’m an accidental participant, had it not been for the illness and death of Senator Kennedy, I’d been a vote on the bill and a vote on the committee,” he said.
WHAT?
Kennedy had a helicopter land on his front yard when his family had to call 9-11. Kennedy and all of them have and will have Rolls Royce medical to the day they die..... How do they even live with themselves????????
How?
Inbreeding and lobotomies.
Oh, and liquor/drugs. Akin to “we need lots of guns.”
When you are a politician, every move is calculated to your benefit...sometimes your calculations are wrong.
Dodd is so worried about the people that do not have health insurance. What about those of us that do. Why doesn’t he and the other members of Congress allow us to deduct every penny that we spend on medical care instead of having to wait until our medical expenses exceed 7% of our gross adjusted income. He and his cohorts don’t have to spend a penny on medical care under their “Cadillac” plan therefore they are not concerned about the 7% threshold.
What elites they think that they are. We must show him and all that think and vote with him the door as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
Reid should be in jail...along with everybody who cut a deal!
Senate and congressional pensions should be means tested. If you have assets over a million dollars you get a dollar a year.
