NEW YORK (AP) - Percy Sutton, attorney to Malcolm X and a pioneering media mogul, has died in New York. He was 89.
Marissa Shorenstein, a spokeswoman for Gov. David Paterson, confirmed Sutton's death Saturday. She did not know the cause of death.
The son of a slave, Sutton became a fixture in Harlem after moving to New York City following his military service with the famed Tuskegee Airmen in World War II. His law office represented Malcolm X and the slain activist's family for decades.

How old was his father when he was born? The Civil War was over 55 years before.
Otherwise, a quick look at Wikipedia (which hasn't been updated yet) shows that: "His parents Samuel and Lillian were both educators with his father being one of the first blacks in Bexar County." .... hardly 'slave' labor by any sense

Aww, man, don’t lay it out in chronological order. Then it just sounds bad. Someone as exalted as Malcom X’s lawyer shouldn’t be questioned.
He was probably one of his father’s younger children and his father himself was likely a very young child when slavery was ended.
But does it make slavery any less heinous that his father “was barely born” under that system? No.
Just like Ethan Allen sold furniture “made by the Revolutionary War hero Ethan Allen”, so Percy Sutton was “a lawyer who was the son of a slave”.
God bless America for the advertising of facts to sell your products and services. Sutton was a great entrepreneur.

I think John Tyler had a son when he was about 75 years old, and his son had a son when he was about 75 years old, so that the grandson of John Tyler is alive today. Or maybe it was someone else.
His father would have been 75 at least. Not buying the AP story.

My Mom has an uncle that is 25 years younger than her, 4 years younger than me. My Great-Grandfather was 81 when he had him, with his 5th wife who was 27 at the time.
What can I say, we’re a southern family.
Yeah, John Tyler came to my mind as well. He had 15 children from 2 wives, the last at the age of 70. His son Lyon was born in 1853 (when President Tyler was 63).
Lyon Tylor was the father of 6 children to two wives, and his son Harrison (born in 1928 when Lyon was 75) is still living.
So Harrison Tyler (aged 81) is the son of a man who was 11 or 12 when Lincoln was killed, and the grandson of a man who was born when George Washington was President.
Well, at least 55 given that Percy was born in 1920 and the Civil War ended in 1865 ... add another 12 years for his father reaching puberty and that makes at least 67 ... now count that Wikipedia says that Percy was "the last of 15 children" and ya gotta add another minimum 15 years to 67, which means his father was at least 82 years old when Percy was born ....
Highly unlikely. AP ought to learn some remedial math (as well as some history) before printing this nonsense
My B-I-L’s dad was born during the centennial of the USA.
It sounds unlikely but certainly is possible. My own, late paternal grandfather was born just after the conclusion of the Civil War, and I’m in my forties, which is 100 years or so, from his birth to mine.
Late life remarriages were not uncommon. Women died in childbirth at a level that would be shocking today. Our current family cemetery has several wives who died young while in labor, and several infants who died with them as well, sadly enough.
One of the inactive ones, in use during the Civil War and Reconstruction, has many marked with fieldstones due to the economic breakdown and hardship. No doubt there are more there, too.
Well since all the posts so far have to do with this guys age and nothing else, I guess I’ll say RIP.
Not to mention his founding of “Kill Whitey” radio in NYC..
