Seventy-eight percent of the adult population today equates to “?” percent of the adult population of 1948 ... IOW, maybe there's 120 million adults today vs say 78 million in 1948 ... the percentage could be down but the number of Christians could be higher ....

There was much more stigma attached to being non-Christian in 1948 than there is today. My guess is that the real percentage of those who are Christian has changed little, there are just more who are willing to admit that they are not today.
