It’s not that these officers have anything to hide. Their resistance to financial disclosure is not rooted in corruption but rather in practicality. They have been given no assurances as to who will have access to their financial information, so they are fearful of being subjected to identity theft or worse should their personal data fall into the wrong hands. Also, they know that if there were a corrupt cop in their midst, it is unlikely he would be exposed through an examination of his tax returns and other official information. Any cop clever enough to be a crook these days is clever enough to hide his money where it won’t be easily found.Source

Folks can be very creative at hiding money: friends, relatives, business ventures with creative accounting, etc. I’d say it is you who is naive.

We then had Probation Offers doing favors for those whom they supervised. Then the Clerk of Courts was caught doing hand behind the back, fingers extended.
Then before the No Fix Ticket we had the 50% discount on traffic fines along side the pay for pleasure with the hookers. That was only the last town I lived in, if you want me to go on I have hundreds.
LOL...Ya got hundreds of thousands in the joint that said the same exact thing...Do yourself a favor, don't get involved in crime, as you'll be charged and prosecuted in record time.

The SOB did it for years and got many people killed.
I moved out and we have our own problems but there are still towns, in Mass, were short of a felony I cannot get a ticket, moving violation, based on whom I am supposedly related to. Must be different out there.

True, but the brass are now whining that no one will volunteer. Besides, it’s totally stupid and needlessly intrusive. Any halfway competent crooked cop can run circles around that full disclosure BS, while the honest cops have all of their personal business open to just about anyone.

Not only that, but more and more often the courts are requiring that PD’s disclose personnel files to lawyers and others. The potential for this info to become public is real.
The Transit workers union found out the hard way that the Taylor Law has teeth.
Sorry, but you’ve have to get your bribes and kickbacks somewhere else. There’s probably a few pets and an old lady somewhwere you can shoot if you look hard.
Same goes for the DoD (uniformed and civilian)
- Regular Drug tests
- Deep background checks for security clearnaces
- Financial disclosure forms (OGE-450 + Security Clearances
That said, the work is important, even if we are suffering under Obama.
