Pilots Out of Loop on Terrorist Attempt?

Pilots Want To Know About Attacks: APA

The Allied Pilots Association, which represents American Airlines pilots, says most airborne flight crews weren't notified of the Christmas Day terrorist attack on a Northwest Airlines A330. The group is calling for changes after what it describes as "communications failures" left the majority of airborne flight crews in the dark about the attempted bombing. In a message to members, the APA's security committee said the Transportation Security Administration specifically told airlines to notify only the crews of airborne westbound trans-Atlantic flights of the attack on the Northwest flight on approach to Detroit. "The TSA should have mandated that information about this security event be passed on to all airborne flights," says the message, which was passed to AVweb by a reader.....

“Wonder what Sully would think about the two pilots who took a walk about while flying over the USA.”

Ask any airline pilot. They’re pissed (in the American sense, not the Australian sense). And don’t make the mistake of viewing Sully as someone exceptional. Most anytime you walk onto a major carrier you’re dealing with comparable quality, and expertise. Some are significantly better, but for the most part you’re dealing with pros. It’s what they do.

The point here, is that the solution is not going to be solved by some “hero”. Pilots don’t have much of a voice in this debate anyway, or the problem would be well on the way to a viable solution. It’s going to take a movement to overcome the years of PC complacency that leaves us where we are. Again, it’s definitely not a Sully (one individual) solution. It’s going to take a bunch of us pushing for the right solution, or a lot of innocent blood let because the government didn’t do their job of protecting us.

It would appear that 3,000 lives, in 2001, were not nearly enough to convince the current administration that there’s a problem. Any guesses as to what the fatality “set point” has to be before government does their job?

Had the device worked as planned all the warnings in the world to other aircraft wouldn't have changed a thing.

I disagree.

Whether or not the device on flight 253 worked, ALL planes in the air should have been notified. If this was a multi-plane attack they might have been able to prevent other terrorists from attempting to blow up the planes they were on.In addition, ALL planes on the ground should have been put on hold and the passengers run back through security.

I would assume that if the deceased were Democrat voters that Obama would be a little upset. Otherwise he looks at it as a cost of doing business with his pals in the Muslim world.

I agree. Every pilot should have been notified ASAP about what was going on!

Yes he did say that. It’s on tape. Nappy also said it. Twice. In fact, she emphasized it when she tried to clarify her statement about the system working.

Right. Janet Incompetano alluded to as much with some offhanded commendation of passenger actions. But her comments in that regard were entirely tertiary and incidental. The flight crew and the "system" being most notworthy; the actions of passengers merely being an inconvieniant elephant in the room (inconsequential to the ultimate outcome).

The thing that struck me the moment I heard here comments during her presser was whether, or not, she was acquiescing to, acknowledging, or condoning fundamental rights to an active self defense of life, liberty and property? My understanding is that according to the contemporary liberal paradigm no such de facto right exists; resistance is futile. I'm sure the camel's nose under the tent will soon get a most deserved swack by the media in the upcoming days. They'll soon be trotting out some story about how likely tragedy is to result from active resistance.

For example, the recent horror at Ft. Hood. Imagine the carnage that would've ensued if active and overwhelming resistance was mounted en-masse each and every time the shooter stopped to reload.
