Boy Scout-free LAPD Explorer program in the works(Lists gay discrimination as reason)

The LAPD plans to launch its own Explorer program for young people this month, removing the Boy Scouts of America from management, officials said Tuesday.

The Police Commission voted two months ago to end its relationship with the Scouts because of the organization's policies that discriminate against gays. The program had been operated by the Learning for Life Foundation, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts.

The move to create the Los Angeles Police Department's own teen program should be launched by Jan. 1, Deputy Chief Earl Paysinger told the Police Commission.

"We have received inquiries from dozens of agencies on what we're doing," Paysinger said. "We think once the LAPD breaks away, other agencies will as well."

The biggest challenge in creating the program has been raising money, Paysinger said, but more than $25,000 has been collected so far to help cover the costs of uniforms, badges and patches.

The Explorer program introduces teens to law enforcement as a career, by having them work in stations alongside officers and assist in a variety of policing programs.

Before becoming Explorers, teens must take 96 hours of training in an academy. More than 250 cadets are expected to graduate soon and enter the new program, which has not yet been named. About 3,000 young people are currently enrolled as Explorers.

"We have found wide support ... and a great understanding about why we are making this change," Paysinger said.

I was thinking of the “Hole in the Stall Gang”?

To the left, the BSA is the morally repugnant organization while NAMBLA is ethical..

There is a silver lining here, they are starting their own scouting program, not sueing the bejeebees out of the real scouts.

BTW, I’ll bet that picture upthread of the Gay Scout leaders is going to be pretty close to reality. Poor kids who have to be part of that crap.

The Police Commission voted two months ago to end its relationship with the Scouts because of the organization's policies that discriminate against gays.

So they carefully weighed the benefits of Scouting and they paled in comparison to the horror of limiting access of men attracted to boys to said boys.

Dragnet2, your town, any comments?

oIf they're smart, they'll keep the extensive BSA rules

I was never a Boy Scout, but some of the best years of my life was as the Cubmaster for a pack in Florida. I took the pack from 22 to 85 scouts in 2 years. BSA is one of the best organizations in the world.

I was going to suggest the “Wood Sprites”, but since it law enforcement oriented, maybe the “Donut Holers”?

*sputter* I'm SHOCKED! Shocked to hear this kind of joking going on at Free Republic!

Right on the money.

Some people think this is about gay "rights." The term "gay rights" is a parlor trick. It is about gay removal of rights. When you have the right to your own labor, to bear arms, to pursue happiness, to own property -- those rights affect soley the individual exercising them.

But gay "rights" are dependent on restricting the rights of others to discriminate freely and peacefully against open homosexuality. To call them "rights" is a lie. No one is talking about stringing up two guys for being gay -- how the heck would we ever really know? Two guys can be room mates and pals, or they might be flaming fags -- outide of their abode, how and why would we know? What the BSA seeks is to keep open homosexuality as far from the Boy Scouts as possible. It is well within its rights to do that, and every employer, employee, landlord, business, contractor, church, and organization private or public has the same right. Conversely, those same individuals and entities have the right to discriminate in favor of open homosexuality, and see how well they do when people exercise their right (which current discrimination laws punish us for exercising) to openly reject open homosexuality.

I think things would become a lot more serene and civilized.

My husband is still an Assistant Scoutmaster in our local troop, even though our youngest is off to the USMC. I was a Venture Crew Advisor while our oldest was in Venturing.

It is indeed a great organization, and it DOES build character in both boys and leaders!

Although I find this disgusting, and a slap against one of the finest institutions in American life, I will say this for the LAPD: At least they started their own Rumpranger Scouts instead of going to court and trying to taake over the real Scouts.

IIRC, that’s the reason one other “a;lternative” scout program crashed and burned. They blew off the youth protection procedures (they probably thought it was rooted in homophobia, or didn’t have enough volunteers to go around) and had a predator (gee, what a surprise) abuse one of the boys.

Yup, I had heard about that one too.

The libs have a serious logical disconnect here. They think homosexuals are OH so trendy and cool and worthy of their unqualified support. . . . but then homosexuals do what they do, and the libs are SO surprised and shocked.

It IS a mental illness.

LAPD supports the Godless Gay Scouts. What kind of parent would?... Never mind. Unfortunately I know of several.

The LAPD is getting more money than they know what to do with if they think they need to push the gay agenda on kids through a scouting program. What’s next: LAPD NAMBLA involvement?
