Scott Brown adds bucks to upset bid for Senate
The Boston Herald ^ | January 1, 2010 | Sydney Lupkin

While Democrat Martha Coakley has raked in more than five times GOP rival Scott Brown’s donations, the underdog state senator’s fund raising is picking up steam in the final weeks of the race for U.S. Senate.

Coakley, the state’s attorney general, yesterday announced she’d raised $1 million in the last six weeks for a total of $5.2 million since her campaign began.

Brown’s campaign has received $700,000 in the past six weeks - considerably higher than previous totals - putting his war chest just over the $1 million mark.

“There has been an explosion of interest in Scott Brown’s campaign and a lot of his fund-raising energy is coming from online donations,” said senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom, who added that most of Brown’s money has come from small donations.

I think that Brown is gaining. The bad news is that a Republican victory here is improbable. The good news is that it’s possible, which it wasn’t a year ago.

If Republicans can win this seat, they can win almost any seat. This pick-up would be huge because it would scare the heck out of the Rats.

My wife and I are going to send Scott Brown a donation today.

We usually don't donate to politicians but this is a crucial situation.- Tom

It is worth a try. The GOP has got to begin to show the flag in hostile ports like taxachusetts. How much is the GOP Senate Committee contributing btw? Anyone know?

Several cycles back when Howard Dean was DNC Chair he forced through a "50-state" strategy despite the fury of establishment beltway 'rats who thought they knew better and wanted the money spent their way. People here at FR scoffed and ridiculed him because he admittedly was, and is, a goofball.

But he was right, and his strategy worked, and he changed a lot of districts from red to blue. the present Congress is largely the fruits of Howard Dean's work.

GOP ought to get a clue from that.

I don’t think you’d ever see him in the Collins/Snowe/Specter category. He might not be as socially conservative as some Republicans in other parts of the country—but that’d never fly anyway. He really is deserving of a support and media blitz these last few weeks. I find it notable and suspicious that we’re not hearing more head-to-head polling with Coakley. I think she’s vulnerable, and though she could win 65-35, there’s also a chance of an upset. GOTV, $, and media coverage could all really help him.

He's far to the right of the present situation. I sent him a second donation today. You can link to a site that will take your credit/debit card securely, and keeps FEC stuff for candidates. It's a clearinghouse.

Get a donation to him. He has pledged to vote against the health care reform legislation should it ever come back to the Senate for a vote.

He is a man of good character, his opponent is not.

And if your screen name is any indication of what you do for a living, know that Scott is a Jag officer in the reserves.

Martha Coakley is just another Democrat hack - we’ve already got enough of those.

This is not pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking. Scott can win this thing. Regardless of his being a Republican, he and his family are well known and well liked in Massachusetts.

The other real oddity is that there have been NO polls taken of this race since the conclusion of the primary. I have heard, somewhere, that the dearth of polling on this race is deliberate.

“Is he a RINO?”

Here is a link to a Votesmart questionnaire he filled out:

I don't like his abortion or gun positions (must have a license to own a firearm).
