“There’s no government-run health insurance plan here, no government takeover,” he said. “It will benefit the people of Nebraska and it is good for Nebraska. We’ll help protect Medicare and we’ll help lower the cost of health care and it will be budget-neutral.”

Nelson brought up abortion and the so-called “Cornhusker Kickback,” which prompted threats of lawsuits from 13 attorneys general from around the nation.

“There is no effort to try to get something for the state of Nebraska that we’re not going to try to get for all the other states. That’s the understanding with the leadership,” Nelson said.

The senator said he won’t vote for cloture if the language he fought for changes. And he also said he won’t change his vote just to save his job.

“But I can’t make my decisions on the basis of the next election. I can’t, and I won’t,” Nelson said.

Good God. Didn’t he say his vote could not be bought before his vote was bought? Now he would have us believe he won’t change his vote based on the next election?
