- Forecasters say the coldest stretch of weather in years if not decades could be heading for North Carolina. While temperatures wont be falling to record lows, the National Weather Service says the duration of the cold weather is unusual. Highs could struggle to get above freezing for the next week in areas from Raleigh west. Forecasters say there are some indications the weather with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens could last up to two weeks. A cold snap like that was last seen in January 1977.

Thats pretty normal weather for Boston. NC better man up!
Cold snap? Not true at all!
After all, who you gonna believe, your own lying thermometer or the East Anglia University Climate Centre?
“A cold snap like that was last seen in January 1977.”
WHAT?
With “Earth in the Balance” according to the father of the internet, Al Gore? How can this be? It’s GLOBULL WARMING time!
1985: -20f in Pisgah Forest NC, -34 at Mt. Mitchell.
Damn you Al Gore!
just great - but = can’t complain when the weather has been pretty mild so far this winter...
Just keep the snow and sleet away
Winter of ‘74: 41 straight days below freezing in Hendersonville.
OK ... which of you, in NC, invited AlBORE to speak in your state. You know a Cold spell hangs around Albore’s neck like an ALBATROSS.
That would be a mild winter here. No big deal except to the Global Warming aficionados.
It’s cold but I remember when our oil line froze in January 1985 in Knoxville. Coldest in the nation that night at 24 below. (I was in charge of the fireplace)
This may be a pre-emptive deep freeze...ManBearPig might have been considering appearing in the People’s Republic of Raleigh.
Late 80’s it got really cold, I couldn’t wear shorts in December.
Still sucks. Boston in January is colder, on average, than Reykjavik. I'm 25 miles inland and at a higher elevation where it's considerably colder. I'd love to live in the Charlotte area.
I think the Christmas Gore contested the election (2000? - I try to forget) it was 10 deg F at Nashville at noon in bright sunlight. It was cold that year.
Lows of 20-25 and highs of 40-45 are considered cold in most of the South. We’ve already had as many such days as we get in some entire winters, and this forecast will be 5 degrees or so below that down into central Alabama and Georgia, for another week or more.
Want a laugh? Read this.
I think I would take Reykjavik over Boston. MUCH better looking women, less socialist, no Deval Patrick or the Kennedys and no Red Sox/Patroits fans (Red Sox Nation).
Only if you want to live on herring and aquavit.
LOL! I guess you can use the aquavit to wash down the herring. The Icelandic women are off the charts. They don’t look like Kennedy women. :-)
But,.... but,.... but.... the CO2, the Carbon Dioxide level is so HIGH.... we must be warming.... the data....... the data....../s
