One More Feminist Upset Over Unfair Aging Differences
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 01/02/2010 6:51:38 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

If you bother to read Joanna Weiss' column in today's Boston Globe, expect to get a sense of deja . . . lu. Like untold screeds that have preceded it, "Hollywood’s burden on aging women" stamps its feet over the unequal treatment of aging in men and women.

You know: male stars are allowed to age gracefully, but women must struggle ever-harder to conform to a youthful stereotype of sex-appeal. Unfair!

The feminist response is to blame the culture, in this case embodied by Hollywood, for promoting shallow, sexist values. But the fault, dear Joanna, is not in our stars but in our ourselves, or more precisely, in our DNA.

Problem is that too many men think with their gonads and not with their minds and hearts

Isn't it funny that when women are sway to their hormones they're "irrational," but when men cave into theirs, well, hey, that's just DNA, baby?

(from an email) Can you believe it? This guy wins $181 million in the lottery on a Wednesday, and then finds the love of his life just 2 days later.

LOL! You got it. But, hey, the woman's search for money is in her DNA. Can't blame her.

I don't think Michael Douglas is complaining.

I know I wouldn't.

The old bat wasn’t born she was hatched, a new species. Her picture is in the dictionary twice, once under ugly and again under stupid. I just hope she didn’t reproduce.

It's that hate that eats at them 24/7. It takes a toll after a while.

Liberals are easy to spot in crowds and they do age quicker.

Hence, all the botox, surgery, etc etc.

I get a kick out of the hoopla about celebrity marriage's and pregnancies between "Beautiful people". All the plastic surgery on the parents won't mean a hill of beans when they have an ugly@ss kid!

I suppose that talent might be a big discriminator. Those “older” actresses with talent (Glenn Close or Meryl Streep) seem to have NO problem finding acting jobs. And they tend to DELIVER a fine performance. The younger actresses seem to believe all the hype about being so beautiful and talented. Most times they are neither, just the right actress for that “great” role they were seen in.
As they get older, the attitude tends to keep producers and/or directors from hiring them. Feminists ideals, the idea that they need 4-5 new boyfriends a year, and the constant dieting and exercise to stay 40 pounds under a healthy weight probably help them age faster too.
Getting old can be a B****, but then you wake up and realize the alternative isn’t all that good.

Let face it, prior to 25, women hold almost all the cards. After 30, biology kicks in big time and men get their revenge. After 50, it doesn’t matter for the vast majority of us. The only ones still able to “git some strange” are those who are some combination of rich, famous, or somehow manage to stay in shape.

All young men have seen the beautiful girls their age gravitate to older boys/men. Thus, it is always with a bit of amusement that I listen to older women complain about men gravitating to younger women.

Nature made the qualities that most women find sexually attractive in a man (confidence & stature) increase with age, while the qualities that most men find sexually attractive in women (smooth skin and gravity free curves) decrease with age.

For every lonely 45-60 year old female unhappy over this reality, there is a 13-30 year old male who is equally unhappy.

That’s it. The Berkeley Hippie Look does not age well. AND there are choices along the way. There was a comment recently congratulating some aging liberal icon(ess) who had held out all these years and refused to ‘look beautiful,’ as if it were a sell-out.

Well, the fruits of that are — UGLY.

Hey, Brigitte - don't blame it on age. Take off about 60 pounds (including a pound of eye makeup) - and without the double chins, you'd still be a beautiful lady -

Merrill Streep is still doing VERY well - she keeps herself in good health -

I find it amusing that liberal woman look haggler as they age
while conservative woman become glowing and beautiful.

If you want to see a band of liberal ladies that haven’t aged well...
go to Southern California.
Plenty of gals who were probably babes in the 1960, spent every sunny
day at the beach strutting their stuff in bikinis...
and now look like wrinkled, tanned leather.

Yeh, and by 50, some of that ‘strange’ you get could march you right to the hospital.
