Here in north central Florida (Ocala) we will be having lows in the mid 20’s, highs around 50 till the end of the week. This is 20 degrees below normal and wind chills will get below 20 degrees.
1985 was a really bad one for citrus farming. The northern end of commercial citrus growing moved from southern Marion County south about 75 miles to the Sebring area, [further north near the coasts].
Somehow Fla doesn’t seem too bad right now. When I got up this morn, was minus 38 F here along the Yukon in Ak. Wind has picked up, minus 22 tonight, feed the woodstoves.
I did some bidding for the Avon Park contracts about 18 years ago and got lost in those massive orange groves around the place. It was neat. I hope they will be alright.
Didn’t it snow in Plantation (Ft. Lauderdake) Jan 19th?
I think the year was 1979. It was early afternoon, as
I remember
it’s Fort Lauderdale, “cliffy boy”
It’s 20 degrees here in North Alabama.
That’s about the only advantage of low temperatures here in Northern Virginia (15). I can actually run my woodstove at about 500 degrees where it is most efficient. The rest of the time it is too warm and I have to let it burn down.
I was in Ft Lauderdale at the time, and never saw the “snow” because it was mostly about 10 miles inland (Plantation / Sunrise / Davie), and was early in the morning, from what I heard. It was fun seeing the huge headlines the next day in the paper, about 8” (600 point): SNOW!
That’s more like it. No economy to ruin there!
My family and I were sitting in an airport on Christmas day of ‘85 and watching tv weather. It was warmer in Toronto than Orlando, where we were headed. My wife joked we were headed in the wrong direction.
Btw, it was -29 here New Years Day night and it is headed southeast.
We moved to Central Florida back in 82 and had snow flurries that winter in our home town. Made a dusting on our car and the grass. 35 degrees F here this morning
Thats a two-three blanket room
I have one blanket (electric)
There were 2 inches of snow out around Brandon in January of 1977. About an inch in Tampa. Bridges iced-over.
Heh, our daughter is heading back to school down there next weekend. She might find little difference from what she’ll be leaving, here in MA!
was it called global warming then or just winter.lol
9 degrees om Augustine? Oh boy! That’s gonna cost $$$. You stay warm there Swampsniper.
Don’t you know you’re not supposed to burn that stovewood? s/
Depends on where you are...parts of New Hampshire only received a few inches, but Burlington, Vermont got stuck under a snow band guided by winds from an ocean storm, and record totals are approaching THREE FEET! Guess that's what Zero meant by 'shovel ready jobs'...
