An effigy of Barack Obama has been found hanging from a building in Plains, Georgia, the home of former US president Jimmy Carter.
The effigy, with a rope around its neck, was placed in front of a red, white and blue sign that said: "Plains, Georgia. Home of Jimmy Carter, our 39th President" in the town's Main Street on Friday night.
It was removed by police on Saturday morning and local media said few people saw it before it was taken down.
The Secret Service are investigating the incident.
The incident has caused disquiet in the small rural town. Local business owners feared it would give the town a bad name and affect tourism.
"We wish it hadn't happened," said Jan Williams, who manages the Plains Historic Inn on Main Street.
"It's not the kind of publicity the town of Plains likes," Ms Williams said of the city of about 600.
"Plains is a nice quiet town."

The locals should summon the help of “KKK” Robert Byrd to find the perp. :-)
That Jimmy Carter and his cracker pranks, what a cut-up!!!
Obama can now invoke Marshall Law there.
I guess they sold out of the Jimmy Carter effigy’s, huh?
Agent Jones: "Hey guys, someone found a noosed effigy of the President hanging, gotta go check it out."
Agent Smith: "Oh, so it wasn't President Bush."
I guess they don’t realize America now has a bad reputation
this being done by the empty suit.
Zer0 is destroying our country but we’re to be concerned
about a blasted teenage prank!
Ok if Bush.
Worthy of capital punishment without a trial if Obama.

Reminds of Robert Shaw who played the Panzer Commander, Colonel Hassler, in “The battle of The Bulge.” When an Italian kid tried to shoot him and missed. The kid’s parents pleaded for his release.
Hassler: Release the boy. Shoot the father!!
