Credit Where Credit Is Due: Vice President Biden Spent Christmas With Wounded at Walter Reed
Monday, January 4, 2010 | Kristinn

News of Vice President Biden's low-key visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Christmas Day was buried in the wake of the terror attack on Northwest Airlines Flight 253 and the subsequent bungled response by his already vacationing boss, Barack Obama.

But for all the grief Obama rightly took for his exhorbitant, self-indulgent extended stay in Hawaii over Christmas and New Year's, Biden should be credited with spending much of his Christmas with our wounded warriors and their families.

As Free Republic's Walter Reed regulars know, Christmas at Walter Reed can be quite lonesome as the hospital and service groups work to send as many patients home for the holidays as they can for short visits. Those remaining at the hospital face an extra tough time.

The Hill was the only outlet to write a complete story about the visit:

Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden on Christmas Day made an unexpected visit to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

The couple attended the hospital's annual Christmas Day dinner, helped serve food and spent time thanking patients and their families for their military service.

The Bidens were expected to spend Christmas in Wilmington, Del., the vice president's hometown.

Afterwards, the Bidens visited with patients and families in the Intensive Care Unit who were unable to attend dinner.

According to Politico the news of the visit was came from: ...an updated daily guidance issued by the White House after the event. Previous guidances had said the Bidens had no public schedule for the day.

Fox News was also one of the few to report on Biden's visit.

The White House posted two photos at its Flickr account:

I just hope Biden wasn't serving fish sticks again.

Biden hosted military families at the Vice President's residence on Thanksgiving.

I don’t believe anything from a dim politician. What self respecting American would tie himself to a kenyan dictator wannabe? He reminds me of algore who would never distance himself from william the first. Birds of a feather works here. ANYONE associated with barry is just as bad as barry. I don’t give a rat’s rear end what he does, his associations speak volumes. He’s a dim. He is the enemy.

Joe’s son has served in Iraq. I would like to believe he was sincere in the visit.

Only the Good Lord knows the man’s motivations, but my sense is that Vice President Biden, despite his politics and affiliations, displays some genuineness as a human being. I have always respected the fact that he has a son serving in the military. If I’m not mistaken his son served in Iraq, and any parent who sends their son or daughter off to war in defense of our country has my admiration whatever their politics may otherwise be.

Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
Classy move.
Especially when Mr. Obama’s White House tried to cover it up.

C’mon Biden - have a change of heart and realize what Obama is doing to the nation. Go on Fox News and give an exclusive interview with BOR and say you’re going to resign because of this corrupt POS administration.

God Bless you Mr. Vice President and Dr. Biden.

We may disagree on nearly every political issue, and I find your character lacking in some areas, but you can also be a good and decent man.

And Thank You Kristinn for bringing this to our attention. The lack of media coverage is enough to convince me this is no photo op.

This is a class act from VP Biden, and I applaud him for this, way to go!

Having said that, I can't help but think that had Dick Cheney done the same as VP, DU would have made snarky, belittling remarks about him for doing so.

This is a BS photo op, nothing more.

Plugs is complicit in every death in theater since he and the Kenyamerican's coup took over and changed the RoE.

This is hypocrisy and camouflage. Biden was probably ordered by Rahm to get his butt in front of some warriors pronto before the torches and pitchforks showed up.

Barry wouldn't go because he'd have to move his tee time.
