At least a dozen former Guantánamo Bay inmates have rejoined al-Qaeda to fight in Yemen, The Times has learnt, amid growing concern over the ability of the country’s Government to accept almost 100 more former inmates from the detention centre.

Okay, let's see, the Gitmo guys are going back to Yemen and Abdulmutallab has lawyered up and is quiet as a church mouse. So, no intelligence from him because he will not be waterboarded or tortured in the old ways. Sooo, then when the guys from Yemen - the guys Abdulmutallab knows about and got orders from - when those + the Gitmo guys kill just One of our Children, then I say start impeachment hearings and begin the 200 million man/woman March on Washington D.C.!

You have to wonder though, will these terrorists that were freed be accepted back into these organizations? I mean they all gave up information that did alot of damage to their worldwide movement, maybe its because i'm not a crazy islamist, but I don't think i'd be so eager to run back into the tender mercies of murderers and sodomists.

Plus you have to wonder if any of these guys have been co-opted by the CIA or whatnot, have gps trackers imbeded into them or manchurian style commands brainwashed into them. If I were a spook I think i'd see alot of opportunity in releasing these fish back into the pool and see who they swim to....after suitably preping them.

Then again, maybe I give the CIA too much credit.

I think you Yanks should give your spooks alot more credit than you do — and a freer reign.

They are the future martyrs of Islam.

I see your points. Their status as Heros probably preemps any more intelellectual concerns. These people are by and large uneducated and totally brainwashed - though a few of the sharper ones have to be thinking what you alluded too. Time will tell. . .

Your CIA is pretty good by world standards. And Johnny "Michael" Spann was a former Marine and a CIA Agent who gave his life the old fashioned way: with a gun in his hand pointed at the Enemy.

The Corporation will have a few agents like him, I reckon.

You're making an unwarranted assumption. Waterboarding or torture are generally not necessary for gaining information (and often lead to unreliable information in any case). That was especially true in this case: the undiebomber was reportedly voluntarily singing like a bird before his court-appointed lawyer shut him up.

I'm glad he was singing. What info that is now locked forever may have saved American lives in the future.
