If all the court cases were reported and Obama spoke out that people were after him...and public felt sorry for him, I could see it helping him. Obama will never speak in public about it because when it finally comes out he will say he never lied.
People who get the news through MSM have no clue it is a issue.
The birther controversy is helping Obama because it allows him to paint all opponents as being kooks. Very helpful indeed.
