My own view is that 2009 has been an extraordinarily successful year for Obama. Since this is currently a minority view and will prompt a chorus of "In The Tank!", allow me to explain.
The substantive record is clear enough. Torture is ended, if Gitmo remains enormously difficult to close and rendition extremely hard to police. The unitary executive, claiming vast, dictatorial powers over American citizens, has been unwound. The legal inquiries that may well convict former Bush officials for war crimes are underway, and the trial of KSM will reveal the lawless sadism of the Cheney regime that did so much to sabotage our war on Jihadism. Military force against al Qaeda in Pakistan has been ratcheted up considerably, even at a civilian cost that remains morally troubling. The US has given notice that it intends to leave Afghanistan with a bang - a big surge, a shift in tactics, and a heavy batch of new troops. Iraq remains dodgy in the extreme, but at least March elections have been finally nailed down.
Domestically, the new president has rescued the banks in a bail-out that has come in at $200 billion under budget; the economy has shifted from a tailspin to stablilization and some prospect of job growth next year; the Dow is at 10,500 a level no one would have predicted this time last year. A stimulus package has helped undergird infrastructure and probably did more to advance non-carbon energy than anything that might have emerged from Copenhagen. Universal health insurance (with promised deficit reduction!) is imminent - a goal sought by Democrats (and Nixon) for decades, impossible under the centrist Clinton, but won finally by a black liberal president.(continued)

Sullivan is so completely wrong on so many issues he is completely irrelevant.
Minority view? If only.
This guy is so delusional one must wonder who feeds and dresses him.
Talk about brain dead.
Don’t mind Sullivan, that’s just his sphincter talking.
I see Sullivan is writing comedy now. Maybe the money’s better.
LOL! Ya, right. Hey Sullivan! You're man is a fascist! Let me spell it out for you F-A-S-C-I-S-T. Now, tell me again about all of President Bush's powers?
I really can't believe anyone pays this moron to write.
Eegads, when that boy drinks the koolaid, he really drinks the koolaid, he would have been first in line at Jonestown and would have asked for two cups.
Okay, this meep meep guy is gone dope dope.
He’s happy that we’re sitting ducks. He thinks it’s swell that some from the Bush administration could potentially be hung at Gitmo for war crimes against rabid hate filled lunatics.
Speaking of lunatics, can an we start a fund for his lobotomy ?
He's forecasting 2012, when we defeat the dictator Obumbler, right?
Never existed.
if Gitmo remains enormously difficult to close and rendition extremely hard to police
Which I suppose is a nice way of speaking about utter failure.
The unitary executive, claiming vast, dictatorial powers over American citizens, has been unwound
That must be why we have a bazillion unaccountable czars.
The legal inquiries that may well convict former Bush officials for war crimes are underway
Holy crap, lefties can be gullible when they want to be.
and the trial of KSM will reveal the lawless sadism of the Cheney regime that did so much to sabotage our war on Jihadism
And certainly who cares about the man's guilt or innocence when his utility as a domestic propaganda tool is in view.
Military force against al Qaeda in Pakistan has been ratcheted up considerably, even at a civilian cost that remains morally troubling
I have heard no evidence to that effect, but would Lefty Sullivan see that as a positive in the first place? He certainly wouldn't if Bush were still in office.
The US has given notice that it intends to leave Afghanistan with a bang - a big surge, a shift in tactics, and a heavy batch of new troops
Similar to the notice that Gitmo would be closed by now.
Iraq remains dodgy in the extreme, but at least March elections have been finally nailed down.
And Obama thinks he can take credit for bringing elections to Iraq? This almost seems like Bush praise.
Domestically, the new president has rescued the banks in a bail-out that has come in at $200 billion under budget
*Boggles* a half trillion dollar bailout is seen as a positive? (Not to mention it seems ole Lefty is praising Bush again).
the economy has shifted from a tailspin to stablilization and some prospect of job growth next year
Duh
the Dow is at 10,500 a level no one would have predicted this time last year
I did!
A stimulus package has helped undergird infrastructure and probably did more to advance non-carbon energy than anything that might have emerged from Copenhagen
Which only underscores how pointless Copenhussle was; because the billions currently being wasted on windmills are irrelevant to energy production, non-carbon or otherwise.
Universal health insurance (with promised deficit reduction!) is imminent
I knew lefties were gullible, but come'on.
"Ahem, excuse me Mr. Sullivan, but your party is waiting for you down the corridor to the left."
So the left, including the Obama administration, are viewing KSM as an ally whose trial will help them get back at who they consider the real enemy: Bush and Cheney. This must be the bottom line why they will risk so much, hundreds of millions of dollars, the safety of New Yorkers, because they really want to let KSM shoot his mouth off
Elections have consequences.
Sullivan’s pitcher of Kool-Aid is still pretty full...everything he says is factually incorrect or wishful, anti-Bush (or pro-Bush) nonsense.
He cannot stop fellating the Kenyan.
I suspect that old Andy’s T-Cell count must have dropped to 17.
where’s the asshole alert
He does not live in thesame universe as you do.
Think upon the notion of an HIV positive gay man who knows nothing about children, challenging Sarah Palin on the birth of her little boy Trig.
