Japanese whalers have sliced in half a high-tech anti-whaling boat in a dramatic escalation of the annual battle between the whaling fleet and environmental activists

Activist on the Ady Gil aims a projectile launcher at a Japanese whaler

The $1.5 million, 79 foot long 'stealth' boat Ady Gil sank after the attack in Southern Ocean but its six man cew was rescued uninjured, said Captain Paul Watson, founder of the radical environmental group Sea Shepherd.

Captain Watson said the Ady Gil, a light weight vessel that resembles Batman's spacecraft more than a conventional boat, was idling in waters near Commonwealth Bay in the Antarctic when it was suddenly rammed by the Japanese ship Shonan Maru, which was providing security to Japan's whaling fleet.

"This seriously escalates the whole situation," said Captain Watson. Speaking from on board the Steve Irwin mother-ship, which was 500 miles away from the collision, Captain Watson added: "According to the (Japanese) Institute of Cetacean Research, the Ady Gil's crew were launching projectiles at the Nisshin Maru and attempted to entangle its propellers with rope."

Australia director for Sea Shepherd Jeff Hansen said the Ady Gil was at a standstill when it was rammed..

"They (the crew) saw the Shonan Maru approaching and tried to back away but they couldn't get out of way in time and were T-boned by the Shonan," said Mr Hansen.

"The Shonan put a hole in the Ady Gil and the nose has clean broken off," he said.

Mr Hansen said the Ady Gil issued mayday call that was not answered by the Japanese whaling fleet. The crew were now on the fleet's third boat, the Bob Barker, he said, but wee unsure if the Ady Gil could be salvaged..

"Suddenly rammed"?
If these fools couldn't see and avoid, they deserve to be sunk.

Methinks they played chicken and lost.

The Japanese are innocent in this. They acted in self-defence.

The eco-terrorists have dropped mines in front of these whalers before. This means that the moment the Ady Gil started dicking about in front of their bow, anything the Japs did was defensible.

For instance: if the Japanese had fired a harpoon into the Ady Gil and then set it alight with flares, it would still have been justifiable self-defense. Not to mention hilarious television.

I am with the Japanese on this one. These “environmentalists” are not about saving the whales. They don’t give a damn if every whale disappeared.

Their goal is to destroy the Japanses’ ability to feed and support themselves, just as their brothers are working on destroying Ameiicas’ ability to provide food for ourselves. If the Japanses said that they would stop whaleing today, they would just focus on destroying another of their industries tomorrow.

In the United States, they have virtually destroyed the lumber industry and are working on destroying the farmers, ranchers, and fishing industry.

Back when they were driving spikes into trees, there were people whose only dersir in life was to earn a living to support their families who lost their lives and those who suffered permanent injuries when their saws hit those nails. Apparently no one except their families gave a damn.

My hat is off to the Japanese for not giving in and fighting back. Every damn one of them needs to be, in my opinion, to be killed like the rabid dogs they are, were and when they are found.

Boy, the Japanese are good at ramming and sinking pesky little boats ...

Two for two ...

The Sea Shepherd terrorists were deliberately attacking a vessel at sea. They might consider fouling the screws with line and making the decks too slick to walk on “harmless” but I don’t. Seamen have to walk on deck in the normal course of their duties. Slick decks can cause serious injuries and death. Fouling the screws will cause the ship to become helpless - and in that area it would be more dangerous than usual.
But of course, the environmental terrorists would rejoice if the ship was lost to ice or storm. They might publicly regret the loss of life.

When you interfere with ships in international waters, you’re asking for trouble. Tough!

Finally some good news to start my day, I hope the Japanese sink every damn one of them.

These a-holes are no better than terrorists.

It was really nice of the Japanese to make the boat twice as stealthy as it was... I don’t blame the Japanese for not answering the mayday call either.. Shoot stuff at me and try to tangle the props... pay the price.. As repugnant as I find the whole whaling thing, ecoterrorism does not make it right....

The only problem I see is that the Japanese rescued the 6 pirates.

“I don’t understand eating whales”

Not questioning your belief, but

Pigs are smarter than dogs, and cows are smarter than horses. Some argue that cetaceans are smarter than humans.

So why do we eat beef and pork, but not dog and horse (in most societies, anyway)?

To bad there are no whales near the pirates of Somalia. The Japanese are doing what we should be doing in the Gulf area to the pirates there.

"...cows are smarter than horses."

Could have fooled me. Grew up on a dairy farm. Although didn't have any horses to make a comparison.

IIRC, the relative intelligence of cows to horses can be noted when both are employed in the same role as draft animals. Oxen vs. plowhorses, for example.

And any toreador has stories about bulls that can think.

Anyway, I’m with the Japanese on this one. They no more T-boned that ecoterrorist scow than they did John F. Kennedy’s PT boat. Both were accidents, JMHO.
