Embattled Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd (D) has scheduled a press conference at his home in Connecticut Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek re-election, according to sources familiar with his plans.
Dodd's retirement comes after months of speculation about his political future, and amid faltering polling numbers and a growing sense among the Democratic establishment that he could not win a sixth term. It also comes less than 24 hours after Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.)

If Dodd announces he is moving to Ireland (or any place else), I suspect it is because he fears arrest and prosecution here in the US at some point.
They are doing a Toricelli. They know they can’t win, so they retire and the Governor appoints a “clean” democrat in their place. If they stay to the end of the term, they will replace them on the ballot with a “clean” dem. It’s about politics and power.

I’d like to see him retired out the side door of a Huey.
uh huh...what this means is that he will keep his warchest, instead of spending it on another reelection campaign.
Good riddance.
Can you serve for 5 terms in the Senate, run scared because you know you will lose your quest for a sixth...and then use the word “retire”?
