That's probably right, they are most likely Paki. But the point is, we could start today to dial the numbers. I worked for SBC for 30 years and we have dialers like that. In a week, we could electronically dial every number in Pak and Afghanistan 10 times. We could also dial Somali and Yemen numbers while we wait for the next craphole phone location.
Yes, a phone can be made to be any number, but most likely they are bought from the "Go Phone" barrel and the number is known. These monkeys don't have the talent to do too much engineering to blow themselves up so the easy way is to get a Go Phone for $50.
I also have wondered why we couldn't check from the cell towers where each phone is. Each tower can report what numbers are in it's cell range and locate the phone. If you are in a hot spot, the good guys could know what numbers are around them. If you watch the numbers one day, where are they the next day? If they turn them off, we can turn them on digitally and then, of course, trigger the ringer. Even in a high population area, you may be surprised how quickly they could be cataloged and tested. If you cataloged a number that came from WalMart in Detroit and he GPS's in Afghanistan, what would you think? I would ring that number about every 2 minutes and watch for the smoke.
Well, you know they are going to test it. If you see a non-Afghan phone wake up, start nailing it. Of course, that would be CIA and soldier phones as well.
Right on.. Kind of like Obama calling the Christmas Day jihadi's act an "attempted terrorist act." Ask the passengers and crew how they felt when they saw fire in the cabin. I'm guessing it was much closer to the terror end of the spectrum than the "move along, nothing to see here" end. It wasn't attempted terrorism...it was terrorism.
