“in an environment where getting sunk means getting dead”
Same is true for eco weenies trying to foul the screws of a ship in those seas. Lose power, and you are at the mercy of the waves. And that don’t always work out so well.
None of this would happen if the eco nazis werent attacking them. The Japanese didn’t seek them out. Self defense.

The whaler definitely puts his rudder hard over into the Sea Shepard ship. The Sea Shepard was going for a close pass to throw stink bombs at the whaler, and the Japanese captain turned into him. If you look at the video, it shows that they would miss till the eco-boat makes a sudden acceleration at the last moment to cause the collsion.

Deliberately ramming a boat with the liklhood of knocking people into frigid water in the Antarctic is IMHO attempted murder. If they are flying the Jolly Roger and attempting to do you harm is it OK to defend yourself??

Unless he argues that he was acting to defend his crew. Remember that the speedboat was throwing glass bottles of rancid butter onto his ship. Paul Watson's escalated way past that to "photonic disruptors" (That's blinding lasers)

My vote for the best video of the year so far... could have made the Darwin Awards for 2010 if the hit had been a little closer to the stern....

Deliberately ramming a boat with the liklhood of knocking people into frigid water in the Antarctic is IMHO attempted murder. Deliberately ramming your own boat into a much larger ship, with the likelihood of knocking yourself into frigid water in the Antarctic is attempted suicide.
Attempting to foul the props of another ship, in the frigid and remote waters of the Antarctic is both attempted murder and piracy. Those who do it should be hanged from the nearest yardarm ... if they survive being apprehended.

Well, what are the rules when a Pirate Ship attacks your ship? I think Andy miscalculated here. He’s assuming that, as he has the moral high-ground (in his own small mind), they wouldn’t dare .... Utopian Thinking meets The Hard Edge of Reality.
Reminds me of that guy who was (the operative word/ past tense) singing to the grizzlies.

The Ady Gil was under power as evidenced by its wake before being hit. It has to give right of way as it is clearly the more maneuverable vessel. There is no way the Japanese ship could ram the Ady Gil unless the Ady Gil allows it to happen.

That was clearly attempted murder. Oh Bovine excrement. I will ask YOU the exact same question I asked another individual...reminding you that Watson lies with every press release...and if you want to debate that...I'm loaded for bear with facts...so go for it...
Here is the question: What do you call it when a group of individuals intentionally try to foul a prop with a line with the desired result being the disabling of the ship? Remembering that the ship is thousands of miles from the nearest coast guard assistance...and a dead engine means death to the ship and crew in high seas.
What do you call that? Because pretty much every episode of Whale Wars shows the SSS trying to foul the props of these ships...hoping to disable them and leave them adrift. The consequences of that in teh Southern Ocean would be a capsized vessel and a dead crew.
That's called attempted murder...and they do it on a daily basis.
So...how many times do I get to drive by your place of business and take shots at you...trying to kill you...until you shoot back?
Huh?

The Captain of the Whaling ship did the right thing they were trying to Foul his Props, I would have circled and hit them again! These People need a lesson as they are terrorists!

That was the point I was trying to make. If someone is trying to kill you it is perfectly OK to return the favor. What the Sea Shepards were doing was clearly illegal, and placing the crew of the Japanese ship in danger. You tug the bulls tail, sometimes you get the horns.
I watch the show Whale Wars and I am very surprised the wackos haven't lost people already. Their ship handling skills are very close to Nil. They spend great amounts of time painting pretty murals and no time on engine maintenance. They routinely take a non ice rated ship into pack ice (Titanic anyone). They rammed a Japanese ship last year (with a full size ship not with a speed boat) and they routinely do stuff that could get people killed.
I'm not a big fan of whalers, but these people are just plain dangerous.

I don't support whaling, but these eco-nuts had it coming. Good for the Japanese crew!

That was clearly attempted murder. Oh...and BTW...that's the same thing that happened last year when the Steve Erwin rammed one of the harpoon ships. There bow got stuck under it...then THEY cried to the press that the Japanese were trying to kill them.

Deliberately ramming a boat with the liklhood of knocking people into frigid water in the Antarctic is IMHO attempted murder. And again...in case you missed it...I will pose the question: What is it called when you try to foul a prop in the hopes of disabling the vessel and leaving it adrift in frigid waters...knowing a vessel adrift powerless in the ocean is at the mercy of the sea...and will capsize in the waves...killing the crew...
What is that called? Cause the SSS do it ALL THE TIME.
To: kingu
The greenies were clearly underway when they were struck. They were not “rammed while dead in the water”.

First I heard about those. In that case the Japanese need to bring out Ma Duce. Or just use the harpoon gun, that should dispense with a carbon fiber speed boat quite nicely. No captain worth his salt is going to let his ship and crew get attacked and not do something about it.

I really do believe liberalism is a mental disease...and I think you are infected. Perhaps. But then again maybe it is just the anarchist in me that is coming out. I have to admire these "pirates" since they are apparently willing to put their lives on the line for their cause, and in this case I think their cause is just.
