You could probably trace the themes back to Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’.

Saw Avatar, really wanted it to be great. It was deeply disappointing. Pretty, but also pretty boring. It’s setting records. Sad mostly because it sucks.
Also the enraging anti-American message. The evil guys decide to “fight terror with terror” and they launch a “shock and awe” campaign. I’m convinced that big tree was meant to be like the World Trade Towers, so we would feel that we are doing something to innocents as bad as what was done to us.
For the bad movie, and the bad politics, I spit on James Cameron.

So? It’s just fiction. Lots of fiction takes from other stories.

Also replace Stands with Fist and Dances with Wolves.

And it doesn’t matter. The story in Avatar is secondary. It’s all about the SPFX.

It has to be better than Titanic though. What a disaster.

Well, yeah, but these are super imposable. I saw the movie and am now kicking myself for not realizing this...I had seen it described as Dances with Wolves meets Star Wars.

Surely there must be a scene in there somewhere in which an old blue Thundercat chief of the space smurfs Na’vi holds up a newborn Na’vi cub Obama, to complete the “circle of life”
To: stuartcr
Yes, but if you can make a one-to-one mapping between two pieces of fiction, then it’s amusingly obvious that at least one of them hasn’t broken any new ground.
Not to mention that the script was better in Pocahontas. Plus, hey, songs!
To: pissant
Dancing with Wolves + ThunderCats + Matrix + Smurfs = Avatar
I still enjoyed it anyway

Funny, I do the same with the Delcaration of Independence, substituting the President/Congress (”They”) for King George III (”He”).

My daughter saw it in 3-D at an Imax. She said the movie sucked but the experience was “epic”.

So? I’ve seen dozens of frankenstein and vampire movies, that are super imposable too.
