Does this mean I will no longer get those emails claiming that someone wants my help claiming 10,000,000 Euros??

The flight originated in Nigeria; perhaps Nigeria could offer to be tighten airport security for flights bound for other countries (if they don’t care about their own domestic flights) instead of issuing threats?

Maybe I’m missing something here.

“Remind me what vital national interests we have in Nigeria again?”

Well, if you’d rather that all of our imported oil come from the Middle East or Chavez’s Venezuela, and if you want a government that has been helping us fight terrorism not to do so anymore, then I guess we don’t have any vital national interests in Nigeria.

The problem is Muslim airline passengers, not airline passengers from Nigeria. Should we keep an eye on Muslims from Nigeria? Of course. But we’ve never seen non-Muslim suicide bombers from Nigeria (or even from countries with Muslim majorities, such as Lebanon or Egypt). Why pick on Nigeria qua Nigeria, especially when the underwear bomber got his al Qaeda training in Europe? It would be like placing the United Kingdom on a terror watch list just because the shoe bomber was from the UK.

And if we ever get into the business of “leveling” countries that we don’t like, something that is completely un-American, there would be like 50 countries that we should level before Nigeria.

Best oil in the word for refining.

Not to mention some of the best emails in the world also. Can I put you on an email mailing list for all the money you could ever need or want?

You’re right. But I feel like I’m missing something too. Not only did the underwear bomber pass inspection in Lagos, but in Amsterdam as well where he allegedly had a “special escort” although not all required paperwork. Have the Netherlands been placed on a travel watchlist as well?

What I am saying, not being at all defensive about Nigeria, is this admin’s approach is ham-handed in its response. Penalize the country of origin, but place the suspect in the U.S. justice system where he cannot be properly interrogated.

OTOH, maybe he was questioned and admitted he already had the explosives when he boarded in Nigeria....???

Great answer. We will not defeat terrorism by punishing countries. Terrorism is nationless, borderless.

They still need someone to buy their oil if they want any foreign currency... i can’t see them cancelling any contracts anytime soon!

Doesn’t Nigeria also allow individual states/provinces to enforce sharia on local populations? I think the last several years have shown a pretty strong link between areas supporting sharia law and supporting terrorism... but that might be considered some type of “profiling”!!

Who knows, if Obozo ticks off enough Afican countries, his ORIGINAL birth certificate could magically appear.

ROFL!

The international airport at Lagos is named Muhammad Murtala International Airport. Murtala was one in a series of military “golpistas,” involved in a coup against the thugocracy that was running the show. As it always happens, Murtala was overthrown by the next generation of golpistas. Story is, Murtala was taken out to the airport and disembowled. He was forced to watch some dogs eat his intestines. All cultures are equal. Diversity is our strength.

In 2008, Nigeria exported a bit more than 1 million barrels per day of crude to the US. They also surpassed Mexico to become the 4th largest exporter of oil to the US, behind Canada, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

Light, sweet crude is grade that is very important to us because it contains less sulphur, which needs to be removed for our refineries.

Light sweet crude fell in price today, closed at $82.66/barrel, breaking a 10 day winning streak that brought the price to its highest level since October of 2008.

I’m not a fan of psycopathic mass murderers (nor of Obama), but tagging Nigeria as a terrorist state because of a single lunatic might not be in our best interest.

And remember, it was a Nigerian (his father) who tipped us off to the plot.

"The underwear bomber was originally from Nigeria, but lived most of his life --- and got his indoctrination --- elsewhere. Why punish Nigeria now?"

Seems to me that it was a Nigerian (Mutallab's father) that reported him to the US State Department and CIA.

It strikes me that continually upping the technology is not going to do it.

Abdul should have been on a terrorist watchlist, due to his al qaeda “training” in Yemen and the warnings from his own father.

So, this introduction of full body scanners, which is going to be increased in the U.S., is creeping me out.

You already know !,,,

” Over the years, an insurgent group known as MEND, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Nigerian Delta, has responded by attacking and sabotaging this oil and gas infrastructure. These attacks have been particularly frequent the last few years. They have also been effective. As of this week, it is being reported that 600 kb/day of Nigerian production has been halted in just the last 60 days.”...
