Excellent. Glad to do my part.

Weak response. Are you going to respond to the facts posted above regarding this situation, or just slink off the thread?

It’s appalling to me how people will countenance bad behavior if sports are involved.

That goes for both players and coaches.

I like a good game of football. I also think Mike Leach is an outstanding football coach. Odd, in an entertaining way, and a winner.

But if a teacher, or an administrator, or your boss, or any other adult in a position of authority had done what he did to that kid, you’d be wanting to throw the book at them.

Can you imagine a young employee sustaining a concussion on the job and the boss telling him to go sit in an air-conditioned janitor’s closet? What an uproar would ensue.

But this was sports, and this was a good coach, and folks don’t like the kid’s dad, so it gets political, and so it’s OK to rationalize the appalling facts of the case.

It doesn’t matter who the kid was or who his dad was. Politics are not an issue. Intentionally mistreating another human being is, in the minds of most of us, bad behavior.

I’m impressed that Tech did the right thing with Leach. From what I hear about prior efforts to get rid of him, it’s pretty easy to believe that this isn’t the first time he’s crossed the line, just the first time there was enough proof to can him.

I hope he learned his lesson and is able to find another job coaching.

So there. I just responded to the facts of the case.
