Yemen president wants dialogue with al-Qaida (a slap in the face of the US, Yemen accepts Al-Qaida)

Yemen's president said he is ready to open a dialogue with al-Qaida fighters who lay down their weapons and renounce violence, despite U.S. pressure to crack down on the terror group.

The United States has complained in the past that Yemen struck deals with al-Qaida fighters and freed them from prison after they promised not to engage in terrorism. Some later broke those promises and are now believed to be active in al-Qaida's offshoot in Yemen.

President Ali Abdullah Saleh vowed that his government is "determined to stand up to the challenges" of al-Qaida and that his security forces will track down as many al-Qaida fighters as possible among those who refuse to stop violence.

But he left the door open for negotiations.

"Dialogue is the best way ... even with al-Qaida, if they set aside their weapons and return to reason," he said in an interview with Abu Dhabi TV aired late Saturday. "We are ready to reach understanding with anyone who renounces violence and terrorism."

It's not going to be Obama targeted, it's going to be us, everyday ordinary US citizens.

He obviously has heard of Vietnam. I wonder if he knows what SEATO stood for?

SNL scooped the NYT last night in their opening skit. Yemen is taking the money and flipping Obama the bird.

Yemen has been de facto on the side of AQ for some time but now doesn’t even hesitate to admit it. Remember the mysterious “jail breaks” and other actions aimed at sheltering AQ and undermining US attempts to control Yemeni members of AQ?

Someone needs to confront the Administration with the fact that AQ in the Arabian Peninsula has in fact been active since before the USS Cole bombing occurred.

Obama seems to blame their presence on Gitmo.

The way Obama threw the Poles under the Russian bus regarding missile defense has consequences. Countries no longer rely on the US as a friend, are less afraid of it as an enemy, and are now doing what they need for their survival, i.e. negotiating with the US enemies. Thank you Obama! You are such a brilliant man!

Obama blames everything on Gitmo, and the entire Muslim world now knows that it can play us like a fiddle.

This is the same Obama who is doing “outreach” to the Taliban in Afghanistan, leading to massive loss of life...US life, as well as innocent Afghani life. But it’s all cool, that’s just their form of dialogue, after all.

“The United States has tripled its foreign assistance to the country from 2008 levels and plans to spend up to $63 million on Yemen this year.”

Looks like the Obama strategy is working out well... (sarc)

“Obama blames everything on Gitmo”

So how does he explain the 9-11-2001 terrorist attacks — there was no Gitmo prison then...

And nobody asks him about that.
