Reid Shill Stephanopoulos Stresses 'Negro Dialect' Supposed To Be 'Private'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

It was the thinnest of reeds, but that didn't stop George Stephanopoulos from clinging to it—twice—in doing his best for Harry Reid . . .

Appearing on GMA today, Steph stressed that Reid's remarks about then-candidate Obama being "light-skinned" and having no "negro dialect" were supposed to be "private."

Stephanopoulos tried to put the best face on things during a conversation with weekend co-host Kate Snow.

A double standard of humongous proportions. If he had an R by his name he would be being prosecuted in a court of law for those words.

Back to stuffin' envelopes ~ it's simply not possible to 'splan away Harry Reid's racist comments.

Time for Harry to resign ~ by Noon today if at all possible.

Saying it was supposed to be private is putting the best face on it? To me, that makes it worse. We have a right to know what these guys are actually thinking.

Actually I think it would be to the country’s advantage to keep Reid in place....they might replace him with someone competent.

Keeping it private could hurt sales.

Ironically, Harry has no discernible negro dialect either, what was his point?

I notice that FoxNews and FNS seem to be ignoring one of the other incendiary quotes, the one from Bill Clinton:

All those recordings of Mark Furman (O.J. trial) using the N-word were supposed to have been private also...but they weren't.

This is the 21st century, under democrat rule...nothing is private or sacred to these people anymore.

Complimenting Obama for having “light skin” and “no dialect unless he wants one,” is derogatory to all Blacks with dark-skin and/or dialects.

Tim Kaine answered Chris Wallace that “the context” made it clear that Reed was saying something positive. I hadn’t read the full excerpt before , but the context is what is damning. I’ve had black people describe other blacks to me as “light-skinned” as an identification , like “has freckles,” not racial at all as far as I’m concerned. But Reed’s comments were in the context of whether America was ready to elect a black man President, yes if he were “light-skinned” rather than dark skinned, and didn’t speak in “Negro dialect” except when he wanted to.

Counter to everyone else on this thread, I don’t find his remarks the least bit racist. Some might find them offensive, I suppose, but I do not. At the worst, they are mildly insensitive. Everyone in America, regardless of race, has privately thought the same things. What is somewhat remarkable is the notion that Reid felt the need to share such banal musing. More than likely it was an offhand observations, something to fill time and perhaps intended to elict a response from the listener. Certainly he could not have possibly imagined he was conveying a fresh or provocative insight.
