EPA proposes nation's strictest smog levels ever

The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday proposed the nation's strictest-ever smog limits, a move that could put King and Pierce counties — and possibly others in Washington — in violation of federal air-quality regulations along with large parts of the country.

The EPA proposed reducing the allowable ground-level ozone concentration, measured over an eight-hour period, from 75 parts per billion to between 60 and 70.

Ozone standards have been the center of a political and legal battle since spring 2008, when the EPA set a looser limit than what its scientific advisers had suggested and President George W. Bush personally intervened to scale back the agency's proposal to 75 ppb at the last minute. The new proposal mirrors what EPA's Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee unanimously recommended in 2007.

That means cracking down further on emissions — from power plants, factories, landfills and motor vehicles — which bake in sunlight and form smog.

Why stop between 60-70? Why not make it zero?

It is time to demand that the government stop wasting taxpayer dollars on sewers like the EPA and Homeland “Security”. What a waste of money.

Zero noticed there’s a few domestic manufacturers we have not chased out of the country yet. Can’t have that.

And Seattle voted for it. They wanted their very own dictator - now they have one, I wonder if they’re pleased?

I a county of more than 6,300 sq miles with a population of 45,000 and no major industry to speak of, we are apparently not in compliance with the new standards. That shows how ridiculous this is.

We either need to do away with the EPA or defund it! They’re a menace.

No job, no cars on the road, no factories humming, no problem.

What a sad sad commentary.

And away we go...

here come the unfunded Federal mandates that the States will have to comply with or lose their highway funding. We have been down this road many, many times.

And this is just the beginning. Wait till the CO2 mandates start trickling out.

BOHICA...

Meanwhile, in the workers' paradise:

I've posted this before, and it's from two years ago and stands as the worst I've personally seen on MODIS, but believe me it gets plenty bad lotsa times. This is a hundred or a thousand times worse, it seems to me, than the stuff the EPA is fussing over. It wigs me out.
