Now THAT'S funny. I'm sure that the deer are very impressed by the fences as they hurdle over them. LOL!

Actually the fencing works very well. A 54" tall 5-wire electric fence will keep the deer out, unless a heard slams through it (has happened here in front of us). A double fence, one approximately two feet tall, two feet from the primary fence has been found to be very effective locally. We have a fruit orchard about 1/2 mile from our rear property line. They did everything, including culling permits (shot 85 one weekend and had no real effect on crop damage). The double fence has been very effective for them.

Ah......didn't know that it was electrified. Or that there was a "trip wire" in front.

Big difference.

I still put my money on the deer. lol! Of course, you don't need to have a secure perimeter around your garden..... it just needs to be more secure than your neighbors'. :-)

And as for the culling permits, I believe it. They're like rabbits where I live. If we shot 85 deer, 850 would come to the funeral.

I've no idea why local municipalities don't harvest the deer....say, by hiring a bow hunter (I'd not want to hunt with a rifle in my neighborhood for safety reasons) or via other means. The meat would stock food banks for a long time.

Years ago, I was coming back from the store and saw a deer. It was a young doe who had tried to go over a chain link fence and caught BOTH her legs in the little diamonds in the top of the fence.

She was darn lucky it was both, because I’m sure if it had been only one, she would have broke it trying to get free. But as it was, it was like she was hogtied, and couldn’t get enough leverage to really do anything except flop around.

So I get back to the house and get a pair of heavy duty wire cutters and head back. She was not happy at all about me getting close!

I made sure I cut both wires as quick as I could... within about 2 1/2 seconds, she was already about 60 yards down the fence line and she jumped.

She was juiced alright! Cleared the fence without even trying, probably went about 9 feet in the air!!
