I say we bring the guy that shot the bear to the US to head up the Border Patrol.

one of the species most endangered by climate change

How do they explain their numbers being 10 times more than 50 years ago?

There was a post here yesterday that spoke of a substantial increase in the polar bear population over recent years. Putting that story together with this, it seems we have something similar to the infestation of deer, foraging for food, in the suburbs around New York City.

I expect to read more stories about polar bears wandering south in search of food, warmth, Carbon dioxide .... or publicity.

"In the 1950s the polar bear population up north was estimated at 5,000. Today it's 20- to 25,000, a number that has either held steady over the last 20 years or has risen slightly. In Canada, the manager of wildlife resources for the Nunavut territory of Canada has found that the population there has increased by 25 percent."

When I was a kid, a friend had a Polar bear rug in the rec room from a bear that a local doctor had taken in Norway. It was huge, like ten feet long, with a massive head and paws. The claws were the size of my fingers.

The receeding ice at the North Pole is jeopardising their future existence. As the ice breaks up, so their hunting and mating grounds go with it.

Hold on now ... that bear was adapting just fine. Sounds like it found some new hunting grounds and if the Icelanders don't like being prey well, too bad.

First polar bear to swim to Iceland in 15 years is shot dead...

Wow, that sucks! Its like reading about the winner of the NYC marathon getting hit and killed by a bus after he crosses the finish line....

...or the winner of the Tour De France losing a wheel and crashing head first into a paparazzi car just after he crosses the finish line...

...or watching Obama fall off the podium at his inauguration and.....wait, thats no so bad.
