The Right’s PC Police

Like vultures circling a wounded quarry, Republicans have wasted little time flocking over Majority Leader Harry Reid’s recent stumble into America’s racial midfield. The trigger is a 2008 interview that Reid gave to journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin for their new book Game Change, in which he observed that Barack Obama was electable because he was “light skinned” and “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”

Reid’s apercu was artlessly delivered. In this it was par for the course for a gaffe-prone politician whose previous forays into questionable social commentary include calling President George W. Bush a “loser,” prematurely declaring the Iraq war “lost,” and musing about the olfactory offenses of summer visitors to Washington D.C. Still, it’s hard to see how Reid’s latest rhetorical infelicity merits anything like the outrage that has been leveled at the Senator from the right. Republicans’ opportunistic charges aside, nothing Reid said rises even remotely to the level of racism. And the GOP has little to gain – and much to lose – by pressing this case...

One of Alinsky’s rules for radicals was: a way to discredit an establishment group was to hold them to their own standards, because they cannot live up to the the standards they claim to believe in.

Well I say, discredit liberals by holding them to PC standards, because they cannot live up to them.

Laskin seems to be another Republican who wants to “be above the fray”. Well guess what, if you let the opposition frame the argument then you’ll always lose! We have to hit the commiedems at every opportunity and put them on the defensive all the time. It’s the same thing as Obama giving rights to terrorists so he can say we’re better than they are. I’d rather we wipe out the territories they operate from so no one will ever support them. It’s the same way to defeat the Dems - we have to hit them on every front at every chance. Never give them a pass.

"in taking the racial war to Reid, it is fighting on their terms"

Conservatives are supposed to take the long view. Evidently this is something Republicans are incapable of.

If this is a premonition of things to come then if/when Republicans regain power they will once again return to the short term behavior of ear marks and kowtowing to lobbyists, rather than looking to the long term future of America.

There can not be any quarter given to the Dums. They count on the “enemy” losing interest.

It has taken them 40 years to get to this point, it is not going to be easy to pull them out by the roots.

These are people that had their formative adult years embedded with Commie/Fascist/Sociast dogma.
Now they are in midlife crisis, trying to bring back the good ole days. Very dangerous.

“Reid’s apercu was artlessly delivered.”

Hammm...wasn’t “artlessly” the same word the Flap-Eared Socialist used when talking about Reid’s goof? Maybe it was “inartful”, but it was something close...makes me wonder where this author gets his inspiration.

Let’s not be cute about this - Reid is stupid, racist, and utterly harmful to the country. He needs to be taken down by any means necessary and if those are the means the Dems have gleefully employed for so long, so much the better. Frankly, I don’t have any objection to the fact that it may be unfair. This sort of thing nearly always is, and it nearly always is employed against conservatives. Welcome to the club, Harry. There’s a really big tent for the unemployed here and we have plenty of room for you.

The GOP needs to hire experts on this kind of thing. Experts at “finding offense” or explaining why something is offensive, something like that. Others can be trained to appear genuinely distressed about a comment. The Democrats are experts at that sort of thing.

I agree with Laskin - they’re buying into the pc game that favours the liberals. Its the Republicans who are presenting themselves as the enforcers of liberal standards.

If the truth is no defense, then we do not any longer live in a free country, period. And if there is no political party or movement in this country willing to defend that principle, then we are already very far gone.

Yeah what you said. We should be dishing it out just as much as we get it. The Mr. Nice Guy routine doesn’t work as evidenced by the last several elections.

It is not about 'being above the fray'. It is about ingraining further the PC madness that grips this country. It is about the nation destroying Marxism that is prevalent in today's America and the GOP is pushing us further into. By running around in circles it is embracing everything that seeks to squelch speech and debate. This ludicrous tit for tat over 'racist' Harry Reid while completely ignoring the Black Caucus, The CIC & Black Liberation Theology & Eric Holder. It is about Al Sharpton being asked his opinion on 'racist' for God's sake.

Correct. Likewise I believe that accusing Reid of being a racist should not be tolerated either.
