Honestly, I’m having trouble ginning up the sympathy. My carer is broke. I’m sure Obama will give them more than the $50,000 he gave Italy when they had their earthquake. After all, these are blacks err... african-americans.

Good luck getting ANY praise for the UN out of me. The UN is a global vulture that does little more than feed off the weak and pick the bones of the dead.

The UN building was destroyed? Well, I guess ever cloud has a silver lining.

Haiti is a mess that’s mostly of their own making. Dominica on the other hand thrives.

True.

The earth did it’s part, we will now see, in the next week, how man (the Haitian citizens themselves) will respond once the shock wears off and the reality sets in. Our mission trip in February is almost certainly canceled.

I wonder how the Voodoo temples fared.

>>No- it’s not a Katrina moment in that sense. They felt it in the DR but there’s no really awful damage like in Haiti.<<

I suspect it may be partly due to building standards as well. I understand there is a lot of concrete, but not a lot of rebar, in Haiti.

How many years has the UN been “helping” Haiti?

I remember several years back when a Canadian was shot in Haiti. They guy he was with begged UN troops to help get him to a hospital. They said that their orders didn’t allow them to interfere. Instead they stood around as the man died in the street and some even photographed him as he died.

And of course how the UN stood by while the Rwandan Holocaust took place.

That map looks almost like it depicts a “strike” against port-au-Prince.

UN “peacekeeping” consists of keeping tally while staying out of the line of fire. When there is nobody left to kill they step out into the daylight and proclaim victory.

there are a whole lot of Haitian students and teachers at the school where I teach that are very worried and scared for friends and relatives living in the disaster zone. This actually might explain why my class attendance is down so dramatically this morning. My first period was 30% absentee. I'm on my planning period now.

"Thankfully, the emotional ties they’ve generated to those in Haiti can never be undone, but the physical labor and assistance can sure be destroyed in a heartbeat."

It seems to me that you answered your own question. The emotional\spiritual are lasting while the physical is fleeting.

Why didn’t the UN prevent this quake?

I was wondering that about the narcissist also. Maybe he was playing golf and forgot the whole earth revolves around him for a moment.

Haiti, not even a nice place to visit. Sad, there's an earthquake in a place people build homes out of dumpsters material.

Just heard on the news that the prison in/near Port au Prince has collapsed and surviving prisoners are escaping- possibly resulting in US troops being sent in to maintain order.

I imagine that’s accurate- it will probably surpass the tsunami- when you consider there are roughly 2 million people in the area that was hit...

“I’m sure Obama will give them more than the $50,000 he gave Italy when they had their earthquake.”

I remember Obama making these taxpayer funded “aid” donations so far:

Aid funneled to Hamas in the Gaza Strip - $900,000,000

Aid to Italy after earthquake - $50,000

Aid to Haiti - ???

It is a true human tragedy Obama has chosen to deplete our treasury to the extent our ability to respond to true tragedies is crippled. He has broke the bank. And many, many people will die as a result.

My carer is not broken, it is just broke.
