Marriage on trial (Ted Olson betrays traditional values)
WORLD magazine ^ | 12 January 2010 | WORLD magazine

Proposition 8, the successful California ballot initiative that led to a state constitutional amendment recognizing only marriage between a man and a woman, is on trial this week in San Francisco. The outcome may overturn the same-sex marriage ban in California and even across the country, if the case is appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court and it rules against the ban. According to Austin Nimocks, one of the Alliance Defense Fund attorneys working to defend Proposition 8, “Any loss for those who are defending marriage on this case will have national ripple effects regardless of the technical legal effect.”

Two of the nation’s top attorneys—former political foes Ted Olson and David Boies—are bringing the case before the U.S. District Court of Northern California. The plaintiffs—two homosexual couples—say in their complaint that they suffer “irreparable harm” every day they are not allowed to marry. The complaint speaks of the “intangible, symbolic difference” between marriage and domestic partnerships. The part that Proposition 8 supporters find especially unsettling states that the constitutional amendment poses a disadvantage due to “disapproval or animus against a politically unpopular group.”

In other words, it’s not just the referendum itself that is on trial but also the personal beliefs of the people who fought for it. Instead of relying simply on legislative history or constitutional precedent to decide the case, the attorneys are calling Proposition 8 leaders to the stand and investigating them for bigotry.

I don't understand what happened to Ted Olson. He did some amazing work during the 80's and 90's, but I have lost all respect for him. You cannot turn your back on the traditional values this country was founded on and still call yourself a 'Conservative'. In my opinion, he is having some kind of personal crisis and acting out in a bizarre way.

Losing Babara may have had something to do with it...

Even worse, the judge shopped and managed to get the case assigned to a homosexual judge who has been acting like a maniac during this case.

I wondered about that too.

Wouldn't that be because there are intangible, symbolic differences between a man and a woman being married and members of the same sex being together? Barbara must be turning in her grave

I suspect either that or someone close to him is struggling with Same-Sex Attraction Disorder. That is what happened to Dick Cheney, but even he didn’t go as far as Olson is going. It is really sad to see someone lose it like this.

"I don't understand what happened to Ted Olson."

He's a lawyer, what do you expect?

Its like the old story of the frog and the scorpion:

A scorpion asks a frog for a ride across the creek. The frog says no becuase you'll sting me

The scorpion says if I sting you then I'll drown so I won't do that.

Ok says the frog but half way across the scorpion stings the frog

Why'd you do that asks the frog as he slips below the surface

BECAUSE I"M A SCORPION

I don't understand what happened to Ted Olson.

The new wife would be my guess.

Olson's been off the reservation since the Rudy-bots were touting his conservative credentials. He's on the wrong side of pretty much everything anymore.

He met a tax attorney named Lady Booth shortly after BKO’s murder. They were married in 2006.

(From the Washington Post, October 22, 2006)

On Sept. 11, 2001 -- his 61st birthday -- his wife, conservative commentator Barbara Olson, was killed when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. His personal loss became part of the public narrative of the tragedy, making him perhaps the most famous widower in Washington.

The following year, Olson was introduced to the Louisville native (she's named "Lady" after an aunt) by mutual friends who thought he would hit it off with the 40-something blond tax lawyer. Their first few dates included the Kentucky Derby (both like horse racing) and the Napa Valley charity auction (both like fine wine). Olson popped the question on Oct. 21, 2005, and the couple set the date for exactly one year later at Napa's Meadowood resort.

More than 300 guests attended the midafternoon ceremony on the golf course...

I'd wondered if perhaps he was going to deliberately shepherd this case into an ambush (false flag), but that appears not to be even a possibility.

Not that something like that would be in any way excusable in my eyes.

I don't mean to delve into personal lives here, but keep in mind that Barbara Olson was Ted's third wife -- so I'm not sure how seriously he ever took the institution of marriage in the first place.

Does that mean Ted Olson is a flaming faggot who let his faggotry trump his formerly conservative views, but only after he realized it would make him richer? That’s how I would sum up the pathetic life of David Brock.

They’re a little different. Brock flipped because nobody bought his Anita Hill book. He’s been on the warpath ever since. Hell hath no fury like a queen scorned...

Olson flipped because he lost the most honest, decent person in his life and replaced her with a tax lawyer.

Very possible. With many married couples the wife ends up being her husband's conscience....for better or for worse.Without her as a moral rudder he's become just another worthless whore lawyer.
