Less than an hour after a massive earthquake turned Haiti into an unimaginable hell of death and devastation, Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued an extraordinary call to action, remarkably putting the first Canadian rescue team on the stricken island by the next afternoon.
By all accounts, the launch of Operation Hestia (goddess of the hearth) was vintage Harper: No nonsense; no excuses.
It all started Tuesday evening, minutes after word of the Haitian catastrophe reached Harper’s office.
The PM was briefed aboard his jet as he arrived in Ottawa from a day-trip to Quebec, and immediately issued two clear orders from the plane.
First, the forever hands-on Harper demanded he be kept at the centre of the action and fully informed at all times.
Second, he made it crystal-clear that the Canadian government would do everything possible to come to the aid of the Haitian people - immediately.
One insider says everyone from the military brass to the high-ranking bureaucrats got the PM’s message: “He wanted it done, and he wanted it done two hours ago.” Defence Minister Peter MacKay was also sitting in a government jet, his flight delayed on the tarmac at Halifax airport, when his marching orders arrived from the PM’s plane.

I agree - If Harper doesn’t get a Majority next time around, I will be so mad at Ontario and Quebec and even my own Province of B.C. The Vancouver area is very Liberal but the rest of the Province is very Conservative. Toronto is a write off but the outlying areas of Ontario are Conservative in many ridings. Canada needs a Majority under Harper now more than ever. CO
Harper has responded properly but we need to BRING RELIEF TO THE GROUND IN Haiti. It is a tragedy what happened there and it is our duty as christians to help these people. Where is all the relief from the muslim countries. I guess they spend most of their cash on suicide caches. WE DO NOT WANT to weaken current lax immigration laws in this country which are brutal to begin with and WE DO NOT WANT anymore REFUGEES of any kind under any circumstance!! The government has to start taking care of its own and canadians of contribution..not canadians of convenience who bring dick all to the character and fabric and DO NOT contribute, pay taxes, conform or appreciate they were let in. They mainly come for free health care for them and their relatives.
You better listen up kenny and harper. Stop the nonsense talk about fast tracking immigration. It will sink you like a turd. Even talking about it makes it look like a political ploy to garner votes and let us not forget the michaela jean angle, her being the GG of Canada and a haitian by birth. We’re watchin.
I agree with most of what you say HOWEVER, do not put Harper in this bag. I know him personally. He is the most principled man I have ever met. I rarely see or speak to him now and I pray that the office has not changed him too much. He’s a real Christian and don’t forget he’s under “tremendous” pressure from outside. Like the United States. “You either go along with the Global Warming initiative or all trade is suspended”. Remember, at one time we had the closest of relationships in the world. Now, of course with different administrations from both sides coming in, a lot of that has changed. I know Harper’s heart, he’s a good man but he will NOT make a decision that will devestate the Canadian people. It may happen anyway but he won’t be the author of it. Canada, under the 13 straight years of pure RED Lieberals sold us out. 80% of our trade is with the US. They can shut us down in a week. And similarly, the buy-American only policy of Obama has hurt the border American businesses immensely. It’s a no-win situation for all of us. May we not shoot our friends in the back. But may I suggest the message you need to give Mr. Harper. A recipe for success and you don’t even have to pay me for it.
The canadian electorate is controlled by Quebec and Ontario with the West and East coast third and fourth respectively so far as influence goes and how much power the ruling party can dictate. You are right in that the worst thing for Canada is the four party system (and I include the bloc). It seems we are forever stuck in minority territory. Thank God the lieberals are so inefficient and inept with the likes of dion, iggy and rae, they help keep the conservative choice as the only viable one. And taliban jack. Well he is still in the rabbit hole. So here is what you need to tell Mr. Harper.
1/ Keep quebec happy. Encourage more cultureal french all over canada but scrap the official languages act. Even quebecers I know are embarrassed by it. Continue to give quebec power and respect because after all they do deserve it. They were here before the brits but blew it on the plains. Too much wine and laissez faire.
2/ Get rid of the charter. Quebecers don’t like it and the rest of canada does not (minus mcguintys ontario full of refugees). Real canadians don’t want canadians of convenience here. They don’t want their tax monies supporting immigrants who DO NOT contribute. Quebecers feel strongly about this. Make it so. Many quebecers hate trudeaus legacy. They don’t like the charter either.
3/ Encourage more tar sands, more natural resource mining and selling. Sell to everyone. No matter what regime. Show me the money. Put canadians to work who have contributed all these generations..French and English. The rest send home or don’t let them in.
4/ TAKE CARE OF CANADIAN PENSIONERS WHO WORKED HARD AND PAID TAXES ALL THEIR LIVES. THEY ARE FIRST PRIORITY OVER HAITI, POLITICAL CORRECTNESS, REFUGEES AND EVERYTHING ELSE. TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN (ONES WHO CONTRIBUTE) FIRST!!!
5/ Blackball and squeeze out McGuinea. He is a traitor to the irish race. He will bring in Sharia law and terroirsts for votes. He already brings in the terrorists. He wastes all ontarions hard earned tax dollars on canadians of convenience, refugeees and the official language act. We need to dump HIM!!
Pass on my regards to Mister Harper and tell him to make these things happen. It is a win win for him.
