Anthony Kascak was loathe to leave his burning McKees Rocks home, flames raging all around him early yesterday, until a visiting Marine escorted him to safety.
The Marine, Lance Cpl. Shane Duncan, has been credited with rescuing Mr. Kascak, his wife, Patricia Kascak, the couple's granddaughter, Rebecca Kascak, and her 1-year-old daughter, Vanessa; and Mr. Kascak's great-granddaughter, Eve, 4.

Amen!
Our Troops rock!
Never Leave a Man Behind!!!!!
As to the suspicious origin, sure sounds like a firebombing to me - crash of glass and an immediate carpet burn? Did it happen because there was a Marine visiting the house? Pure speculation, that. But it would make things very ugly, very fast.
Dat’s right!
;0)
I believe local PD suspect a disgruntled ex-boyfriend and there is no connection to the visiting Marine , per se
He just happened to be the ‘angel on scene ‘ !
think of this though : 4 generations of a family , all saved
by the quick thinking and fast actions of ONE Marine .
All I can find on this is one little newspaper article .
Nothing on the local TV? Nothing on Fox ?
Something is wrong with that picture ....
ps: I have met this marine , in person , and he is awesome .
Humble as can be , yet earnest as they come.
If I was his C and this had been in combat : Silver Star !
no doubt about it .
But what do they do for such actions performed in benefit fo civilians ? I guess we shall soon find out : Haiti !
Couldn’t have said it better myself!’’ Marines, No better friend, No worse enemy.’’
But I admit that I loathe writers who are are ignorant, and are loath to take the effort to look up the (very different) meanings of words like "loath" and "loathe"!
thank you for all of your support and im happy to say the family is all good and moving into a new house and there is a on going investigation
It would appear this heroic Marine has showed up on this thread.
Welcome to Free Republic!
Well done, Marine!
Semper Fi Marine !
Looks like this is from just before Christmas? What a Christmas present for this family for their rescue. I was just watching some show last night where they did computer modeling of a house set on fire with 1 gallon of gasoline on the living room floor. It was less than two minutes before it “backflashed” and blew out the windows.
You, the baby and Grandpa are all very blessed to be alive. Thanks to your heroic efforts!
