Haitians might arrive at Tampa

Haitian evacuees may soon be flying into Tampa International Airport.

Tampa and other Florida airports are on "stand-by" alert to receive evacuees as part of a massive effort to help the earthquake-ravaged nation, said airport spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan.

Airport officials anticipate only a two-hour advance notice of aircraft arrival before being able to implement operating procedures - triage mode or passenger processing mode.

Evacuees may be healthy or in need of medical attention, she said in a media release. And some Haitians may have friends or family in the United States and need connecting air service or assistance and a place to stay.

So let me understand this: The U.S. military is shipping out to Haiti. And the Haitians are coming to Tampa, Florida.

Let's recall what effect the NOLA evacuees from Katrina had on the crime rate in Houston. And those criminals were Americans.

Jails in Haiti have been destroyed and their prisoner populations have melted into the general chaos. Who is screening who gets on these flights to TIA?

And why is there silence from Tallahassee on any of this? Nothing from Crist's office. Nothing from the Florida House. Nothing from the Florida Senate. Nothing!

So no one objects to the Haitians being dumped on Tampa's doorstep? Who is making these decisions? Obama?

I don't intend to awaken one morning to find Haitians camped out on my front lawn, sharpening their machetes.

Who’s making this HORRIBLE decision and by WHAT authority...or, are we NOT ALLOWED to ASK? Is King Ray Ray simply waving his hand and pronouncing it by royal decree? Is there NO process for state/ county/city/PUBLIC input on this decision? And if so, WHY NOT, since it will be TAXPAYER MONEY providing the financing. Is there no way to OPPOSE it?...it simply seems to be just another given with the Federal Government once again giving a BIG FU to the wishes of the Americans.

I’m not so sure I would have a problem if there were secure, temporary refugee camps where they could get short-term treatment. Of course, with no homes, etc. in Haiti there is no such thing as short-term.

Critically injured folks I would be more understanding off - with a plan. But to have 2-hours notice with no plan in place?? Yes - Fricken’ nuts.

Some reporter mentioned sending some to Guantanomo Bay for treatement, etc. That Gen. Honoree said “I’m not sure that’s such a good idea with it’s recent history”. (HUHHH?)

indeed I saw a report that over 45,000 of them will be coming here split between JAX,Miami, Tampa, and orlando

and then add those who are now being able to stay here which is in the 100,000 to 200,000.

never let a crisis go to waste and the white house knows that if they keep florida blue then they win the white house.
