The Nigerian Lawyers Up (Blackwater was onto panty bomber)
The Weekly Standard ^ | December 30, 2009 | Michael Goldfarb

Posted on 01/18/2010 7:47:05 AM PST by AAABEST

Buried three paragraphs from the end of the report in today's Washington Post comes what ought to be the lede:

Abdulmutallab remains in a Detroit area prison and, after initial debriefings by the FBI, has restricted his cooperation since securing a defense attorney, according to federal officials.

It sounds like he was singing when they first got him, and of course we now know that the government already had enough information on him to justify sending a Blackwater hit team after him, but now that the people with all that information are finally in a position to ask the questions -- LAWYER. And let's not pretend that the FBI was asking him the right questions over the weekend as they told reporters they were still working under the assumption that the Nigerian had "acted alone." The CIA may have known he was al Qaeda months ago, but the FBI apparently didn't know until Monday -- after al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack. But now he's got a lawyer, and we can't interrogate him, we can't smack him around, we can't lay a finger on him.

This administration has never been as interested in preventing the next attack as properly prosecuting the last one.

This article is a few weeks old, but I didn't see it posted when it came out. The reason I'm posting it now is because I was struck by the tidbits bolded above.

Essentially, low level operatives in the CIA and even private contractors had extensive information on this dangerous goon - to the point where they had him under surveillance ready to take him out - yet the Justice Dept., the entire Executive Branch and Commander in Chief were all woefully ignorant. They have him as a lone "suspect" - the "system worked."

It's only by the grace of God that those passengers weren't annihilated on Christmas Day. Now the "suspect" has lawyers and is taking the 5th.

This administration is a pathetic (and dangerous) clownshow. All they need are the honky-horns and big red noses.

Amazing that when you peel back the layers of this onion, it still smells pretty strong...

No way to keep that from happening...

Good thing Haiti happened for the administration...This might still be the lead story in the news...

Between the pantybomber and the health care debacle you know the Obama admin is practically salivating over this Haiti disaster.

What's Rahmbo's motto? A crisis is a terrible thing to waste?

According to reports we knew his first two names, and the date.

Zero’s gotta pay

It's beginning to look like Obama knew about this and was planning to take advantage of a “crisis”. No doubt by clamping down on security, limiting anti-government protests, limiting travel by anti-administration groups. It is dangerous to assume Obama and friends are simply stupid and incompetent.

And then there's this:

"We have agreements with a number of different countries that work with us cooperatively on intelligence matters," says the State Department employee. "A number of the treaties work through our justice departments or foreign offices or intelligence and interior or homeland security agencies. Several departments here in Washington got the information from London and it didn't trigger anything within our own system.

This employee says that despite statements from the Obama Administration, such information was flagged and given higher priority during the Bush Administration, but that since the changeover "we are encouraged to not create the appearance that we are profiling or targeting Muslims. I think career employees were uncomfortable with the Bush procedures and policies and were relieved to not have to live under them any longer."
